Position Summary

The UCLA Chemistry & Biochemistry Department has a tradition of excellence and is ranked among the best in the country, as evidenced by the quality of its programs, the caliber of its faculty, and the excellence of its students. The Department is a leader in cutting-edge research and innovative educational programs.

The Department employs over 50 professors pursuing research in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. The goals of this research include synthesizing complex natural products and new nano-materials required to solve the many health and environmental crises facing our planet, and illuminating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the decoding of genetic information.


Salary & Compensation

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills: budgeting, scheduling, and multi-site coordination (Required)
  • Experience coordinating human-subjects or clinical research with firefighters, including IRB and HIPAA compliance (Required)
  • 10+ years of experience interacting and working with fire service personnel, apparatus, and equipmentes. Thorough knowledge of fire department culture, shift schedules, strategy, tactics, and organi (Required)
  • Proficiency with REDCap, Excel, and database management; ability to create SOPs and conduct QA/QC checks (Required)
  • Knowledge of the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and safe laboratory practices. Knowledge of current state, federal, OSHA regulations as they apply to the assigned tasks. Knowledge of UCLA regulations is strongly preferred. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh desktop computers and common associated software, including Word, Excel and Filemaker Pro. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of the fire incident command structure; possesesses ICS 100 and ICS 700 Certification (Required)
  • Advanced laboratory skills including biospecimen processing, Luminex or similar immunoassays, and instrument calibration/maintenance (Required)
  • 2+ years of scientific communication experience with firefighter participants, hosting fire departments and union representatives, co-investigators, support staff. Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey procedures in a clear concise manner. (Required)
  • Knowledge of Physical Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry. (Required)
  • Over 5 years of field research experience with firefighters including human subjects research and environmental sampling techniques and operation of portable air- and surface-sampling equipment (Required)

  • High School Diploma and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities. (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health-related or life science field or equivalent experience/training (Preferred)
