Responsibilities:
Assist physicians during bronchoscopy procedures in accordance with departmental policies and protocols, including patient monitoring and assessment of level of consciousness, cardiovascular status, and pulmonary function. Administer and monitor IV moderate (conscious) sedation medications, including opioids, benzodiazepines, sedative-hypnotics, and reversal agents, as authorized. Initiate, implement, and coordinate ventilator management protocols, ensuring safe and effective respiratory care for critically ill patients. Perform advanced airway management procedures, including intubation, extubation, tracheostomy tube changes, and ongoing airway assessment and maintenance. Initiate, manage, and monitor high-frequency ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide therapy according to established protocols and patient care needs. In NICU settings, perform specialized neonatal respiratory care procedures, including surfactant administration, neonatal intubation, and participation in high-risk deliveries. Support specialized clinical services and advanced practice opportunities, which may include participation on the transport team, serving as a backup charge therapist, and performing advanced airway procedures based on competency and departmental needs. Perform department-specific responsibilities and clinical functions as assigned to support patient care, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. Participate in interdisciplinary care planning, patient and family education, and quality improvement initiatives. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Education
Licensure & Certifications
Current New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred or required based on department assignment.
