Job Description:

Support the daily functioning of the Endoscopy department or procedure area. Assist with patient preparation and care during procedures. Handle biologic specimens. Responsible for equipment and instrument cleaning and sterilization.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
    • Escort patient to room and assist patient to prepare for procedure.
    • Collect patient medical information and data.
    • Assist with patient positioning.
    • Provide health information as instructed by Registered Nurse or provider.
    • Document information and data.
    • May assist the endoscopist and / or Registered Nurse during the procedure.
    • May troubleshoot technical problems.
    • May schedule follow-up visits.
    • May send correspondence.
    • May assist with generating charges.
  • Process biological specimens.
    • Receive specimen from endoscopist.
    • Place specimens in proper containers and package for delivery to Lab.
    • Complete pathology requisitions.
  • Prepare and clean endoscopy equipment, instruments, and supplies.
    • Assist with room set-up, supply availability, and testing of equipment pre-procedure.
    • Manage room turn-over, including cleaning of room and equipment, and removing waste.
    • Perform decontamination and high-level disinfection of endoscopes and equipment.
    • Inspect scopes and equipment for wear and damage, and test scopes for leaks.
    • Prepare equipment to be sent for sterilization.
    • Utilize endoscope processing / reprocessing equipment to sterilize and decontaminate scopes.
    • Maintain and keep records and audits for staff and machines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Vocational degree in healthcare program such as Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nursing, Surgical Technician or Nursing Assistant
  • 2 to 5 years in healthcare experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years in Endoscopy experience

Licenses/Certifications

  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required American Heart Association or Allina Health Upon Hire

Physical Demands

  • Medium Work*:
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $19.61 to $26.70 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
