Position Title:Volunteer Coordignator - Patient Resources & Volunteer Program Department:SCC Clinic Patient Services Job Description:

Under minimal supervision, the Volunteer Coordinator implements and coordinates programming that volunteers provide to enhance support to patients and families.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with department leadership and volunteer services, determines, implements, and evaluates programs provided by volunteers for patients and families.

  • This programming will utilize service of volunteers and the community to enhance patient experiences.

  • Initiates and builds community relationships to enhance and expand patient and family programming.

  • Performs consistent stewardship and communication duties with donors and coordinates community fundraising and development events.

  • Supports volunteers by providing direct assistance in training, orientation, shadowing, and behavior modeling opportunities, as needed.

  • Evaluates, expands, and/or enhances the roles of volunteers to best meet patient and family needs and ensures volunteer training is adequate to support those roles.

  • Works closely with volunteers in running programming in order to maintain knowledge of daily needs of patients and families.

  • Evaluates outcomes of programming to meet the needs of patients and families, to ensure quality and to meet best practices.

  • Supports special visitor community and partner volunteers for patient events.

  • Supports donation inventory system through intake, inventory, packing, storing, and assessment of ongoing needs.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience: 1 year of experience in customer service or coordinating programs and projects required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s): Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, materials, and equipment used to facilitate activities with individuals and groups.

  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.

  • Skills sufficient for supervising volunteers and students.

  • Goodinterpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships and deal with difficult patient and health care dynamics.

  • Knowledge of performance improvement tools and how to monitor an ongoing process.

  • Skills in planning programs and analyzing the problems that arise.

  • Skills in fundraising and development.

  • Knowledge of best practices for not-for-profit programs.

  • Computer skills and a general knowledge of office procedures.
