Overview
The College is an academic and residential college (a Learning-Living Community) of 4,000 students, and our main building includes an administrative suite, seminar classrooms, 540 student beds, residential faculty fellows, and extensive programming spaces, all of which is prominently situated overlooking both the Raritan River and the Voorhees Mall, at the heart of the historic College Avenue/Old Queens campus. Given the unique nature of Rutgers, we also have residential and programming spaces across the five campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway. We collaborate with six Schools throughout Rutgers and engage a total of 42 staff and administrators in our work and well over 100 faculty. Our annual applications to the College have surpassed 16,000 individual applicants, and our annual goal is to enroll between 800-850 first-year students.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Dean for Enrollment and First-Year Programs for the Honors College. The Assistant Dean will join the Honors College Dean and Associate Dean in overseeing the assigned portfolios of operations, including the admission process (including recruitment, applications, scholarship selection, and yield) as well as our First-Year programming aimed at fulfilling our goals for student success, which includes new student orientation, a summer common reading program, and several specific cohort programs including first generation and international students, and programs aligned with our undergraduate mission as aligned with retention, success, and engagement goals. The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Associate Dean for day-to-day operations and works collaboratively with the Dean for strategic decision-making and planning.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Supports the Honors College initiatives focused on the recruitment, retention, academic success, and graduation of its high achieving students.
  • Ensures that their program areas are among the best in the nation, by being up to date on the latest methods and research, engaging our campus-based partners, and ensuring that the needs of our prospective and enrolled students are best served by both our model and practices.
  • Collaborates with faculty, including the Honors Council, Faculty Fellows, and collaborative partners across campus for designing, implementing, and conducting the first-year programs.
  • Assists in ensuring that all written content for the College, including web content, external communications, and recruitment and admissions materials accurately and prominently reflect the academic aspects of the College, our partners, and the University.
  • Maintains close working relationships with the key stakeholders of the Honors College, including Enrollment Management/Admissions, School deans of advising (for orientation programs and first-year tracking), and other key student-centered offices and supports who can assist in the design and implementation of retention and success programs.
  • Develops and implements the Honors College's co- and extra-curricular programming for first-year students by identifiable cohorts, to be offered in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Acts as a significant contributor on and in assessment, and recruitment, and as with all other professional positions within the College be expected to participate in College-wide events and activities, such as Welcome Week, Convocation, and more, as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree and at least five (5) years of demonstrated success working in and with various student-facing programs at the university level, preferably in an honors or honors-adjacent environment, to a high level of achievement.

  • Broad, sophisticated, and proven record of program-building and administrative skill set.
  • Ability to be a dynamic individual and leader.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD preferred.
