Summary:
Under general supervision is responsible for the scheduling, training, and supervision of the staff cardiovascular perfusionists and cardiovascular anesthesia technicians. Administrative duties include budget preparation, purchasing of supplies and equipment and evaluation of new products, etc. Work also includes the principal duties and responsibilities of a cardiovascular perfusionist.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Graduate of an accredited training program with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. Clinical experience as specified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology.
  2. License/Certifications: Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required.
  3. Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist to thoroughly understand the complexities of the job and be able to develop effective training programs. Management experience is mandatory.
  4. Must possess leadership, organizational and problem solving skills in order to provide direction and support to staff.
  5. Ability to concentrate for long periods of time when serving as a perfusionist, be able to think and react quickly in emergency situations. Must have more than the average degree of manual dexterity.
  6. Ability to make independent judgements to resolve complex problems consistent with accepted practices in cardiovascular perfusion.
  7. High level of analytical ability to anticipate, identify and solve life threatening perfusion problems.
  8. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, administrators, and operating room personnel.
