Summary

The Electrical Engineering Specialist provides technical support to Project Managers throughout the lifecycle of capital growth projects, primarily in the areas of design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of crude and water pipeline and pump station facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in field site walk downs for scope development and construction and commissioning phases of projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to provide construction support to I&E construction contractors.
  • Assist with the design and installation of electrical and automation systems, motors, protective devices, instrumentation, and related equipment.
  • Collaborate with field construction managers and inspectors to with utility construction and commissioning.
  • Assist in preparation of functional specifications and Cause & Effect documentation for PLC systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in specifying and troubleshooting electrical and control systems, instrumentation, and PLC devices.
  • Develop or modify control logic to address changes in equipment or operating conditions.
  • Assist with identifying temporary power generation needs and plan for transition to permanent power solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex I&E issues, including PLCs, SCADA systems, measurement devices, industrial communications devices, analyzers, transmitters, motors, VFDs, and power distribution equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors, integrators, and OEMs during design, installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Participate in equipment factory acceptance testing in OEM facilities.
  • Collaborate with inhouse and contractor engineers and designers.

Required Experience (commensurate with job level)

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • 10+ years of operations or maintenance experience in pipeline facilities or related environments.
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices and applicable codes.
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and MS Project.

Preferred Experience

  • Broad knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience in pipeline, midstream, or refinery environments.
  • Strong emphasis on safety, operations, budget, and schedule performance.
  • Expertise with instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems, including PLCs, SCADA, VFDs, motors, analyzers, and low/mediumvoltage distribution.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, electrical modeling tools, and control system software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated experience applying industry standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, <5kV low voltage, 5-15kV medium voltage).
  • Understanding of utility company processes for power load requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Occasional visits to industrial or manufacturing settings, which may involve exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and loud equipment; appropriate PPE required.
  • Travel to project sites and vendor facilities (approximately 50%).
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Lead Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job related experience
