Position Summary

TheDallas CollegeFacilitiesManagementDepartment supports the facility needs forDallas Collegewhile providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of physical assets.The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,000,000 sq.ft.of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The position ofApprentice Electrician supports that effort through the performance of skilled work in the electrical trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, repair, test, troubleshoot, and install electrical equipment.

  • Knowledge of electrical codes and best practices.

  • Knowledge of safe work practices, and ability to work at heights and confined spaces.

  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of quality in assigned duties throughout the entirety of the work order process.

  • Ability to read and work from schematic diagrams and blueprints.

  • Willingness to progress to a higher level of ability in the electrical trade.

  • Ability to use common electrical equipment such as power drills, conduit benders, voltmeters, hand tools, etc.

  • Ability to utilize computer technology to operate computer based electrical systems. Ability to utilize a computerized maintenance management system to document daily work orders.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with attention to detail.

  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and provide exceptional customer service.

  • Must have the ability to maintain the security and integrity of the critical infrastructure of Dallas College.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest quality ofelectrical work across all Dallas College locations.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues throughout Dallas College.

  • Install electrical circuits, lighting, distribution panels, feeder cables, rough-ins, trim outs, etc.

  • Maintain inventory of electrical supplies through appropriate procurement methods.

  • Works with other facilities teammates to ensure the highest level of customer service and provides safe and healthy grounds for Dallas College students, faculty, and staff.

  • Assists other facilities management teams as required.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over,stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching,kneeling,or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50lbs., lifting 10-80lbs., carrying 10-50lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping.May require working in adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of related experience.

  • Electrician Apprentice License or the ability to obtain the license within 3 months.

  • A valid Texas driver's license.

  • Bilingual preferred.
