THE SALVATION ARMY North and Central Illinois Division JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Program Aide (Summer Youth Program) LOCATION/DEPT: Peoria Citadel REPORTS TO: Youth Director PEOPLE MANAGER: No FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt, Full Time. Seasonal and temporary up to 90 days. PAY GRADE: 201 PAY RATE: $15.53 per hour WHO WE ARE At The Salvation Army, we are dedicated to "Doing the Most Good". The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need. JOB SUMMARY Responsible for aiding the supervision and direction of the educational, recreational, and developmental programs at The Salvation Army Youth Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the overall administrative components of the Youth Center. This may include:
- Performs routine typing work such as letters or routine correspondence.
- Filing forms, letters and correspondence.
- Transcribing program communications during monthly meetings.
- Preparing materials for workshops and meetings.
- Assist Youth Director with program duties.
- Assist in the overall operation of the Youth Center including, but not limited to:
- Supervision of after school children in scheduled daily activities including completion of homework assignments, tutoring in math and reading, crafts, and computer stations.
- Assist as needed with room preparations, scheduling of activities, meal preparation and clean-up as well as recreation activities.
- Supervise arrival and departure of campers.
- Assist in preparation of visits by visiting teachers or special guests.
- Assist in statistics, daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as needed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual students:
- Learn to know the needs of everyone and be available to help each individual experience success.
- Help each student meet and exceed personal learning and achievement goals.
- Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines closely to ensure safety and well-being of each individual student.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Significant experience may be considered in lieu of. Experience: Candidates must be passionate to work with school-aged children and be willing to demonstrate sound moral principles and leadership qualities. One to two years of experience working with youth is preferred. Skills/Abilities

- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications.
JOB LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit resources of The Salvation Army that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the designated Supervisor informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to participate in all physical activities including, but not limited to, outdoor recreation, walking and climbing stairs, small and large group activities, as well as one-to-one instruction. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings or see employees. The work environment will be indoors, including the gymnasium, dining room, classrooms, and large rooms where the noise level may fluctuate frequently between quiet productivity and boisterous activity. For some duties of this job, such as special events and outdoor activities, the employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment including a PC and potentially make public presentations/interactions.
- The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to moderate noise level.
- This individual must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position. A valid MVR is required.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- This position reports to the Youth Director.
- In context related to this position's duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he/she will act as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

- This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed. An evaluation of how effective service is provided. Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.
