This role leads primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging development initiatives, oversees qualification and validation programs, supports cost-savings and sustainability efforts, and provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

  • Develop and qualify primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems including plastics, flexible films, corrugated, folding cartons, thermoforms, bottles, tubes, and injection-molded components.

  • Design, plan, and execute analytical testing, package performance testing, line trials, and commercialization activities.

  • Conduct hands-on evaluations in lab, warehouse, and manufacturing environments to ensure conformance to requirements.

  • Troubleshoot packaging and line-related issues independently during development, trials, and commercialization.

  • Independently plan and execute projects, including timelines, risk assessments, contingency plans, and action plans.

  • Act as liaison between global engineering teams and local packaging SMEs to align on testing methodologies and requirements.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across innovation, quality improvement, and margin enhancement initiatives.

  • Analyze results and translate findings into clear, actionable technical recommendations.

  • Develop component specifications using DOE, SPC, FMEA, and Lean Six Sigma principles.

  • Evaluate graphics and printing processes and assess their impact on package performance, sustainability, and quality.

  • Understand product-process-package interactions and failure modes to guide material and design decisions.

  • Lead qualification programs for new materials, formats, and suppliers.

  • Leverage and challenge suppliers to develop innovative technologies, materials, and cost-advantaged packaging formats.

  • Support cost-savings and value-engineering initiatives tied to packaging design and material selection.

  • Ensure all project documentation, test data, trial reports, and qualification records are complete, accurate, and retained.

  • Ensure packaging quality expectations and regulatory requirements are met for global market launches.

  • Identify gaps in internal testing capabilities and recommend additional methodologies as needed.

  • Act as a technical resource and provide mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and co-op students.

  • May supervise Packaging Technicians or Packaging Engineers in delivery of SBU projects.
