This role is accountable for process and manufacturing engineering, quality, drafting, and continuous improvement resources, and serves as the primary driver of cost reduction through process and design manufacturability improvement, and quality system compliance for the site.

The Engineering Manager partners closely with the ESMU Plant Manager to grow the business by removing cost from products and processes through VAVE initiatives, Lean/CI Projects, and improved technical standards. The role collaborates with all stakeholders at our site and additionally, group, functional, and regional stakeholders including North Point Engineering and Quality Leadership, ESMU Center of Excellence, and US Sales teams, to ensure alignment with package design standards, quoting processes, and group technical governance, while optimizing ESMU operations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of the ESMU engineering organization, including Quality, Process, and Drafting to support safe and efficient operations
  • Drive cost reduction, operational excellence, and safety by design through VAVE, Lean/CI, and improved utilization of engineering and manufacturing capabilities
  • Own technical governance for ESMU, including engineering standards, drawings, product and process documentation, ERP data, and compliance to OpCo and Group requirements
  • Lead, develop, and coach engineering and technical staff to build capability, accountability, and a continuous improvement mentality aligned with business goals
Other Job Functions

  • Ensure sufficient coverage across engineering, drafting, quality, and CI functions, and adjust priorities and staffing as the need arises
  • Support rapid issue resolution on quality escapes, manufacturability challenges, and late or deficient engineering/drafting inputs
  • Lead site-level VAVE initiatives focused on product design, materials, fabrication methods, and standardization
  • Leverage Industrial Engineering and CI resources to eliminate waste, improve throughput, and reduce material, labor, and overhead costs
  • Identify and drive improvements to upstream sales and commercial processes that negatively impact ESMU efficiency, working cross-functionally to improve inputs to the factory
  • Analyze cost drivers and process performance data to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities consistent with business objectives
  • Analyze process and product designs/layouts to identify safety risks that can be mitigated through design and process improvement
  • Own and maintain the site Quality Management System through direct Quality Engineering and QC resources
  • Ensure compliance with ISO and ASME certification requirements, including U, UM, and R stamps, audits, corrective actions, and ongoing improvement
  • Partner with functional Quality leadership and North Point stakeholders to assure compliance to bigger picture goals and governance requirements
  • Maintain and improve engineering standards, drawing practices, BOM accuracy, routings, and drafting standard methodologies to reduce errors and inefficiencies
  • Ensure engineering data integrity and effective use of ERP systems to support quoting, manufacturing execution, and cost control
  • Build a high performing engineering team through coaching, mentoring, training, and performance management
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding technical and engineering personnel
  • Support individual development plans and succession planning within the engineering organization
  • Promote a culture aligned with the things we value, accountability, and ongoing improvement
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an engineering field like Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a related area

  • Strong process focused mentality, with experience improving profitability through cost reduction, waste elimination, process standardization, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Prior responsibility for driving margin improvement through a combination of product cost reduction and manufacturing/process improvements
  • Applied Lean/CI, VAVE, and cost reduction methodologies.
