The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in power generation operations/maintenance.
  • Total experience to include three (3) years of formal leadership experience (required); in lieu of formal leadership, experience managing project teams, budgets, coaching and mentoring team members, leadership training may be substitutable.
  • Valid driver's license.

Salary Range: $144,900.00 - $217,350.00 annually - commensurate with experience

The salary range listed reflects the full pay grade (minimum to maximum) for this role. In alignment with OUC's compensation practices, starting salaries typically fall within the first half of the range (minimum to midpoint). Any exceptions to this practice require additional review and approval.

Location: Stanton Energy Center

Job Purpose:

Manage OUC's Stanton Energy Center (SEC) EWP Operations unit. Ensure safe and reliable plant operations at the generation facilities while supporting environmental compliance and economical generation. Develop and maintain O&M (operation and maintenance) budget and capital budget.

Primary Functions:

  • Ensure coal-fired generating units meet generation and environmental compliance while ensuring SEC Operations policies and guidelines are being followed;
  • Manage OUC's EWP Operations unit for SEC's Fossil Fuel Units 1 and 2;
  • Develop and maintain O&M budget and capital budget for Operations, generate and analyze billing statements, budget reports and spreadsheets when necessary;
  • Oversee and support SEC's Emergency Response Team (ERT); provide expertise regarding plant safety guidelines and requirements;
  • Monitor the availability of plant operating equipment and assist with coordinating equipment schedules;
  • Provide management with accurate update reports regarding plant process and system issues, improvements, root cause analysis, recommended solutions, preventative maintenance operational changes, etc.;
  • Manage SEC Operations personnel: schedule and monitor daily activity for staff, maintain time sheets, coordinate planned and un-planned outages, create and implement employee development programs, complete performance appraisals, institute progressive discipline actions when necessary, assist management with staff hires and promotions, etc.;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:
  • Industry technical standards related to The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), National Fire Protection (NFPA), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), etc.;
  • North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) plant safety permits and applications;
  • Operations and maintenance manuals;
  • Software Applications (i.e. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Nisoft, AutoCAD, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO));
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws;
  • Power Plant Processes;
  • Safety permits and applications;
  • Memos, Agendas, Performance Appraisals, Timesheets; Billing statements;
  • Reporting (i.e. Budgeting, Analysis, CEMS, process control;
  • Capital and O&M project budget, cash flow, spreadsheets, graphs, economic analysis;
  • Mechanical (i.e. boilers, steam and gas turbine-generators, large rotating equipment pumps, fans, etc.);
  • Electrical (i.e. high voltage electrical systems, programmable logic controls, high voltage switchgear, 4.2kV motors, control, electronic circuits, etc.);
  • Environmental control systems;
  • Effective communications skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills;
  • Demonstrated Leadership skills;
  • Able to be flexible working within a constant changing environment;
  • Apply financial analysis and justification such as net present value (NPV) and return on investment (ROI);
  • Comprehend and process control diagrams and reports;
  • Ability to:
  • Work overtime and extended hours when needed; subject to call out and/or availability via phone assistance 24/ 7;
  • Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios and percentages;
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university required;
  • MBA preferred;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in power generation operations/maintenance to include three (3) years of formal supervisory/management experience over staff members and/or experience in leading efforts and setting direction for projects/teams;
  • Valid driver's license

  • Budget Reports and Analysis

Working Conditions:

This job involves occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements (dust, heat, fumes, cold, noise, vibration, wetness, etc.). This job may involve occasional wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts and work in high places. This job may involve occasional working in confined areas, around fumes or airborne particles and with toxic or caustic chemicals. This job may involve occasional working in outdoor weather conditions, in extreme cold or heat (non-weather), and under the risk of electric shock. This job may involve occasional working by vibration, breathing apparatus, blood borne pathogens and insects.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires typing, reading, writing, and driving a company vehicle. This job requires standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping and climbing (ladders, stairs, hills, etc.). This job requires lifting up to twenty (20) lbs., reaching over head, kneeling/crawling and repetitive motions. This job may require running, lifting up to forty (40) lbs., and pushing/pulling/digging.
