Seasonal Grounds Zoo Worker

Hourly Pay Range: $11.23 - $23.87



Job Summary: To assist in the general upkeep of operations of the Zoological Gardens and to perform assigned duties to ensure a pleasurable safe experience for all zoo visitors.



Essential Responsibilities:




  • Park Clean up: Under general supervision to remove waste, recyclables; to clean and pick paper; to leaf blow and pick up leaves, to remove snow and treat ice, to pick up and deliver animal food, browse, tables, chairs and other items.
  • Landscaping: To operate riding and push mowers, weed whips, tillers, to aerate, plant, water, prune, weed, removal of evasive plants, to top dress, seed and perform other landscape functions.
  • Lead and Drive: If possesses a valid Class D driver's license is able to operate electric and /or gas driven carts and light duty trucks; to lead a small crew of Zoo Workers; to work under minimal supervision. Driving could include plowing snow, going off zoo grounds to pick up trees for browse, items for the zoo.
  • Repair and Operate: To do routine maintenance to buildings, fencing, pavement, and equipment, to paint buildings, fences, operate a pressure washer, and if has a valid Class D driver's license operate equipment such as fork lifts and skid loaders.
  • Other: To provide information and direction to Zoo Visitors, to lend assistance to other staff and Zoo Visitors, other jobs and duties that may be assigned



Minimum Requirements:




  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as Outlook, LMS, and spreadsheets.
  • Able to lift, carry up to 50lbs.
  • Able to push, and pull up to 75 lbs.



Preferred Qualifications:




  • Possession of a Driver's License
  • Forklift Certified



NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the state of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
