Decontamination Technician

This is the full performance level for the occupation. Receives contaminated semi critical reusable medical devices in the decontamination area and may receive noncritical equipment as well. Disassembles the devices and determines the correct cleaning method. Performs and documents daily operational checks and records for all processes and equipment.

WHAT WE DO

We disinfect and distribute reusable medical equipment. That means we clean, inspect, store, and deliver equipment needed for patient care in a healthcare facility. Because of the work we do, clinical care teams can safely administer essential medications and treatments for patients in our communities.

WHY IT MATTERS

We provide support to the Operating Room, inpatient, and outpatient units by ensuring that the reusable medical equipment used is reprocessed according to best practices. Within the Low Level Disinfection Department (LLD), our focus is to ensure the delivery of quality products with a timely turnaround for our customers.

Department: Lower Level Decontamination
Job Status: Full time, 40 hours per week, Eligible for benefits
Shift: Evenings 3PM to 11:30PM, weekends required.

Duties & Responsibilities

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

1. Perform equipment inventory to verify quantities on hand in the department and on units.
2. Deliver clean equipment and picks up dirty equipment as needed and as directed.
3. Orders patient specific rental equipment.
4. Assists in various projects involving department.
5. Meets minimum department productivity standards.
6. Understands customer needs, expectations, and performs appropriate customer service.
7. All personnel who are involved in reprocessing of devices are responsible for following the department policy and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) drafted in accordance with the manufacturers written recommendations.
8. Sterile Processing and Infection Prevention Control should be consulted when clarification of written instructions is needed. No one should be reprocessing any reusable medical devices based upon vendors verbal instructions alone.
9. All personnel that are in any way involved in reprocessing of devices must have documented training in the setup, reprocessing and maintenance of specific equipment.
10. Validation of competency will be done according to national policy guidelines. All personnel that have the responsibility of reprocessing devices can suspend the use of any devices if they suspect that the device was not properly cleaned, disinfected.
11. Understanding the importance of devices and the significant impact on our patient population through risk of infectious disease.
    

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Strong experience in customer service a plus

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $15.17 to $22.76
