Patient Safety Officer at Providence Portland Medical Center is 1.0 FTE full time position working during weekdays and weekends on a day shift.

The Patient Safety Officer, (PSO) under the supervision of the Medical Director and with consultation of the local facilities management, administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician/Provider. The PSO is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. The PSO supervises each Hyperbaric treatment or ensures that treatments are supervised only by qualified staff that has been trained in hyperbaric medicine. The PSO is responsible for the training of staff related to hyperbaric therapy.

Required qualifications:



  • Coursework/Training and must have completed a 40 hour Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society and National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course.
  • Within 1 year of hire NBDHMT, ABWH or BNACB certification
  • 1 year of Experience in one of the following professions: Respiratory Therapist, Diver Medic, Corpsman (from military), Medical Services Specialist, EMT, Paramedic, RN, LPN, CNA, MA, Chamber Technician (from military), Current Diving Medical Technician (DMT) or Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT).


Preferred qualifications:



  • Experience in Wound Care.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
