Position Summary

The Manager Indirect Tax will be highly skilled and experienced tax professional and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect taxation across the United States and Canada. This role ensures full compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local tax regulations, including Sales & Use Tax, Tangible Personal Property Tax, and GST/HST/PST/QST. The position also plays a key role in supporting mergers and acquisitions by researching indirect tax implications and implementing post-acquisition compliance processes.

    Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week
  • This is an in office role, based out of our Hollywood, FL office.


Responsibilities

Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Manage and oversee preparation, review, and filing of all US indirect tax returns, including state and local Sales & Use Tax and Tangible Personal Property Tax
  • Manage and oversee preparation, review, and filing of all Canadian indirect tax returns, including GST/HST, PST and QST
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all indirect tax returns and payments.
  • Maintain tax calendars and compliance schedules across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Reconcile indirect tax accounts and support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact to the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, accounting, and legal teams, to gather necessary financial data and ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations, assess their impact on the organization's tax reporting, and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders
  • Oversight of global indirect tax functions.

Tax Research & Advisory

  • Research and analyze complex indirect tax issues across US and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders (finance, operations, procurement, legal).
  • Support audit defense, including responding to state, local, and provincial tax audits.
  • Develop and maintain internal documentation, policies, and procedures related to indirect tax compliance.

Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)

  • Evaluate tax implications of company operations, business transactions, and mergers and acquisitions and develop tax-saving strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Conduct indirect tax due diligence for acquisitions.
  • Assess exposure and identify compliance gaps in target entities.
  • Develop and implement post-acquisition integration plans for indirect tax compliance.
  • Ensure proper registration, system configuration, and filing setup in new jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration of acquired entities.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Drive efficiency and simplicity into the TIC tax function, including through standardization & simplifications of processes and by the utilization of technology
  • Evaluate and improve indirect tax processes and controls.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of tax engines and ERP systems.
  • Ensure proper tax determination logic is applied within financial systems.

Leadership & Strategic Support

  • Assist with administrative duties, including managing the relationship and co-ordination with service providers, budgeting, department planning and hiring
  • Coach, train and review the work of subordinates.
  • Complete performance evaluations constructively and timely and provide ongoing performance feedback to employees.
  • Assists executives and/or senior directors in defining organizational goals and strategic plans.

Other work duties as assigned.



Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in indirect tax, including multi-state US and Canadian jurisdictions, a public company tax department, public accounting, or combination preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • Strong working knowledge of US State & Local Sales and Use Tax, Tangible Personal Property Tax, and Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST
  • Extensive business knowledge with comprehensive understanding of the organization and functional area.
  • Strong communication, research, analytical and writing skills.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional organization.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and summarize information efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across numerous jurisdictions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in managing tax reporting processes and managing relationships with external auditors and service providers.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and knowledge/experience with implementing a tax software solution for tax provisioning.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based or remote work environment with standard business hours.
  • May require extended hours during peak compliance periods, month-end/year-end close, audits, or M&A transactions.
  • Frequent interaction with internal departments including Finance, Accounting, Legal, Operations, and external tax authorities.
  • Occasional travel may be required for acquisitions, audits, or integration activities.

  • Physical job demands and requirements such as extended periods of sitting, limited/prolonged periods of concentration, etc.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to review detailed financial data and documentation for extended periods.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly via phone, video conferencing, and in person.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds (e.g., files, documents, laptop equipment).
