Position Title: Phlebotomist I

Work Location: 5109 Summitview Avenue, Yakima, WA

Assignment Duration: 3 Months

Work Schedule: 1st Shift (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday)

Note: Possible variation to 10:00/10:30 AM - 7:00 PM for one candidate


Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist is to perform blood collection and support related duties, including troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement in an IOP setting.


Background & Context

  • Coverage for FMLA/LOA at an IOP location
  • Potential for additional opportunities after 91 days


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and process samples
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients clearly and courteously
  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles
  • Verify physician orders and match requisition forms with specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
  • Ensure accuracy of test requisitions and labels
  • Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity
  • Store specimens at appropriate temperatures and follow transport protocols
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Participate in annual department training
  • Handle phone inquiries and communicate lab results when required
  • Perform point-of-care testing in an IOP setting


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state)
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with all age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills


Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Majority of shift spent standing
  • IOP (In-Office Phlebotomy) setting
  • Team-oriented environment


Additional Information

  • Patient volume: ~25 patients/day (pediatrics to geriatrics)
  • Point-of-care testing required
  • Vaccination Requirements: TB required
  • Color vision screening required
  • Washington State Phlebotomy License required
