The Engineer II, Test Operations is responsible for implementing the maintenance, repair, upkeep, and upgrade of testing laboratory equipment and related infrastructure in cooperation with the Anchor, DX (Direct Fastening), Installation, Fire Protection Business Units for Hilti North America (HNA). This position maintains, calibrates, ensures proper and safe functioning, and conformance to applicable standards and regulations (e.g., IAS, ICC-ES, ASTM, UL, OSHA, etc.) of all test and support equipment in the HNA Testing Laboratory.


What You'll do

Provide input and direction for the design, fabrication, and implementation of testing equipment
Perform maintenance of test equipment and facility using internal/external processes and procedures
Troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, electronic, data acquisition, machine control, sensor, IT, and network issues of test and facility equipment and determine proper course of action for repair
Arrange and assist vendors in performing complex test equipment repairs, calibration, and facility maintenance
Utilize test and related equipment in compliance with UL/ASTM standard requirements
Ensure accurate, objective test data by monitoring or conducting the set-up and calibration of test equipment sensors, gauges, and instruments to GPMS quality requirements and applicable standards, including record keeping for audit traceability * Attend equipment and process training classes
Organize, utilize, and maintain library of test and facility equipment manuals, bulletins, schematics, processes, and procedures
Make preventative maintenance recommendations to extend the life of test equipment and infrastructure
Work effectively and efficiently with teams (locally and globally)
Conduct technical training on the proper use and maintenance of testing equipment and apparatus
Support evaluation projects to ensure proper equipment usage and data is provided accurately for research and approval projects
Consult with approval managers on equipment needs; create long term procurement plan for future laboratory needs
Consult with laboratory testing staff to solve testing challenges and develop more efficient and safer approaches to testing programs

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology, required
Two (2) years of experience in lab or mechanical testing, preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of standard tools, multimeters, construction tools, crane equipment, forklifts and safety precautions, required
Intermediate use of PC software (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) required
Basic knowledge of UL/ASTM, Firestop, Anchor and DX testing standard requirements, required
Ability to run test equipment (Furnace, L-Rating, Static-Cyclic-Seismic Hydraulic Test Equipment, Vibration, Environmental Chamber, Paint Booth, etc.) and evaluate proper function for troubleshooting system performance and improvements, required
Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, blueprints, drawings, and sketches, required
Ability to draft technical reports, required
Technical writing and technical presentations skills, required
Experienced with closed-loop servo hydraulic systems, preferred
Knowledge of sensor technology (load cell, strain gage, LVDT, accelerometer, thermocouple, etc.)
Experienced with universal tensile machines
Knowledge of combustion furnaces, afterburners, and natural gas trains
Knowledge asset tracking software and data management
Basic machining and metal working skills preferred
Forklift license preferred
