Overview

The Office of Professional Education (OPE) at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, Massachusetts supports faculty and student endeavors in the classroom and across campus. OPE ensures excellence in teaching in collaboration with academic and clinical departments, manages curriculum and program development, facilitates faculty development, maintains student information, scheduling, and grading systems, and provides support for the university learning management system and education tools. Within OPE is the Joseph Kelley, D.V.M. Simulation Laboratory. The simulation laboratory supports curricular delivery for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students, including all aspects of teaching and assessment of hands-on clinical skills, using simulators, cadavers, and live animals (cats, dogs, and exotic animals). The simulation laboratory also supports electives, extracurricular club activities, and continuing education opportunities.

What You'll Do

This position supports day-to-day educational, operational, and compliance functions of the Joseph Kelley, D.V.M. Simulation Laboratory, with a particular focus on Clinical Skills and Communication (CSC) courses. Working collaboratively with the Clinical Skills Administrative Coordinator, the position also provides backup administrative support for CSC courses as needed. The position reports to the Kelley Simulation Laboratory Manager, with a dotted line relationship to the Large Animal Simulation Laboratory Manager.
  • Support simulation laboratory operations by processing room reservation requests, monitoring / responding to program emails, serving as the initial point of contact for lab users (answering questions / referring as needed), receiving mail and packages, scheduling meetings, coordinating routine maintenance and ordering / restocking, facilitating equipment loans (including scheduling and pick-ups and drop-offs), creating and maintaining asset / equipment records (using asset tracking software), and processing soiled laundry.
  • Support Clinical Skills & Communication courses by assisting with lab set-up and clean up, ordering supplies and equipment, printing QR attendance codes and sign-in sheets, printing / copying student handouts, and providing backup coverage for the Clinical Skills Administrative Coordinator as needed.
  • Support compliance requirements by logging new chemicals (using chemical tracking software), scanning animal use owner consent forms, coordinating ATP tests for disinfection efficacy (in conjunction with Laboratory Animal Medical Service), submitting live animal use requests, ensuring live animal use is tracked appropriately (per IACUC protocols), submitting cadaver requests, and coordinating with Pathology on final cadaver disposition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years Previous exposure and/or experience with animals and veterinary terminology
  • Strong Computer Skills, including familiarity with Zoom and MS applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workflow and effectively change priorities and direction.
  • Effective communicator with ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and balance multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Must be committed to a culture of diversity, equity, respect, and inclusion; demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences different from one's' own.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or related field
  • 1-3 years Customer service and / or client-facing roles, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems.

Pay Range

Minimum $27.30, Midpoint $32.50, Maximum $37.70

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
