Fortress Nutrition is actively hiring for a 3rd Shift Filler Operator/Line Operator to work on our Beverage Canning Line.
The right candidate will have previous experience as a filler operator (preferably in the food and beverage industry) and have a stable work history with previous employers. Must be able to be accountable to the Company's need for overtime & weekend work as required.
Candidates must be able to train on 2nd Shift for 2-3 months!
Training Hours: 2nd Shift: 2:00pm-10:30pm - Monday-Friday (not eligible for OT until trained, once trained OT and weekends are mandatory based on production schedule)
Standard Hours:
3rd Shift: 10:00pm-6:30am - Sunday-Thursday, 10:00pm-8:30am - Friday, OT and Weekends (mandatory based on production schedule)
Job Summary: Working as part of the Beverage Operations team, the Filler/Canning Line Operator is a dual role. The primary responsibilities of the Filler Operator include: safe and efficient operation of the beverage filling equipment of our high-speed canning/beverage production line to ensure accurate production, capping, and packaging of high-quality products according to customer expectations. This role plays a vital part in maintaining product quality, safety, and ensuring production targets are achieved.
This role will require cross-training on the canning line to function as an operator as needed for breaks/staffing shortages. The primary responsibilities of the Canning Line Operator include: operating high-speed canning/beverage production line equipment to create, produce and package products while working with a team to ensure the line is kept running, issues (red lights) are address/resolved with strong sense of urgency, and safe, high-quality products are produced.
What You'll Do:
Filler Operator Duties:
- Setup, operate and maintain semi-automatic filling equipment to ensure quality and efficiency of product output
- Perform hourly quality checks to maintain specifications of product, following MMR instructions
- Consistently read and assess real time meter values (Brix, Co2, water formula) to ensure no deviations or errors occur; Act with strong sense of urgency to resolve errors and prevent production delays
- Perform can checks for damage, scratches and imperfections
- Perform and provide seam checks for quality, testing, and can integrity
- Maintain CSW for can lid reload as needed
- Monitor production yield using the Yield Loss Calculator to assess real-time production yield data; Identify and call out any yield deviations (too low/too high) based on established targets to make necessary adjustments
- Monitor internal IM channel (Slack) for Quality updates and product specification details; Interact and make adjustments to work as needed
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation logs for filler station and surrounding areas
- Assist with line changeovers for different product or packaging formats
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and perform basic maintenance and/or cleaning
- Accurately complete production documentation, quality checks, and equipment logs
- Coordinate with Quality and Maintenance as needed to address and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or product inconsistencies immediately to Production Lead, Supervisor, or Operations Manager
- Follow all safety protocols, GMPs, and sanitation procedures at all times
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and suggest ways to improve processes
- Cross train on the canning line to support production when needed for breaks, PTO, absences, etc.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by leadership
Canning Line Operator Duties:
- Setup, operate and maintain all canning line equipment, including filler, seamer, and packing equipment to ensure quality and efficiency of product output
- Troubleshoot any/all issues immediately as they arise on the high-speed canning machinery, including the filler, seamer, and packaging equipment
- Document all canning line and repack QA checks for accuracy in real-time following Good Documentation Practices (GDPs)
- Perform all duties with a strong sense of urgency; Quickly address red stop lights on the equipment to ensure minimal downtime
- Notify maintenance of any equipment/mechanical issues and necessary repairs with strong sense of urgency to minimize production delays
- Safely, efficiently and effectively work to attain department and company goals and objectives
- Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure equipment and product quality is maintained at all times
- Perform all duties with strict attention-to-detail to ensure product is packaged properly and efficiently, meeting all client requirements and output standards
- Perform physical inventory of packaging materials and notify supervision of replenishment needs in a timely manner
- Communicate all production-related concerns and matters to the supervisor as they arise for immediate attention
- Perform all other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- 2+ year of machine operating experience, preferably on high-speed packaging equipment, is required
- Previous experience as a filler operator within the food/beverage industry, with an understanding of food safety & quality requirements is strongly desired
- Ability to understand throw-rate & ratio settings
- Strong attention-to-detail and ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues
- Ability to learn, operate and troubleshoot high-speed production line equipment
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed to fulfill production needs
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to stand; walk; talk or hear; reach above shoulders; use hands to finger, handle, grasp, pinch or touch objects, controls, tools or equipment; kneel, crouch and use foot/feet to operate machinery; bend at the waist; climb or balance
- Frequently required to lift, carry, move, push or pull materials, product or equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, up to ten (10) or more hours in a single shift
