Job Summary

The Associate Director of Research Security is responsible for developing and implementing security protocols to protect sensitive research data and intellectual property. This position also involves conducting risk assessments, training staff on security practices, and ensuring compliance with federal and institutional security regulations. Sets performance goals, contributes to evaluations, provides feedback, and supports compensation decisions.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement security protocols to protect sensitive research data

Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in research operations

Train staff on best practices for safeguarding research information

Coordinate with IT departments to ensure secure data storage and access

Monitor compliance with federal and institutional security regulations

Investigate security breaches and recommend corrective actions

Review and update security policies to address emerging threats

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience

Other Required Qualifications
Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and (due to client shift schedules, project requirements).

Required Experience
6+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory knowledge

Industrial Security Professional (ISP) through the National Classification Management Society (NCMS) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) through the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) International Microsoft (MS) operating systems, MS office suites, Security Information Management System (SIMS), Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS), Industrial Security Facility Database (ISFD), Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP), Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT) and Electronic Facility Clearance (eFCL) database

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong operational background in managing SAP/SCI requirements under Title 10 and Title 50 authorities.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising 10+ personnel, directly or indirectly, with a hands-on management style.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant systems, including SIMS, DISS, JADE, and Scattered Castles.
  • Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and JSIG guidelines for cybersecurity.
  • Exceptional program and team management skills
  • The ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective and secure delivery of national security programs.
  • Experience maintaining compliance with relevant regulations such as DoD 5205.07, ICD 704/705, SEADs, JSIG, and the NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117)
  • Experience in preparing for government inspections and audits, and enforcing classification controls, risk management and access protocols
  • Experience acting as a liaison between internal teams, government agencies, and contractors to ensure alignment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires advanced knowledge of industrial security management principles and practices including in depth familiarity with Department of Defense and other government agency issued rules and regulations applicable to area of responsibility. Skills in personnel organization and management, communications and customer service are required as is use of office and specialized security computer applications and databases.

Salary range is dependent on candidates experiences and skills that ranges from $125,996 - $212,933.

Other Information

Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the non-profit, applied research arm of Georgia Tech. This position is in the Research Security department of GTRI.

The Deputy Director, SAP/SCI Division Security, is responsible for supporting the Senior Director in managing and executing daily operations across all Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) programs. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining secure environments, fostering collaboration, and implementing security initiatives. The Deputy Director will act as a bridge between the Senior Director and operational teams, making critical recommendations while executing organizational priorities.
