SUMMARY:
Performs skilled accounting support functions with responsibility for assigned accounting processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and reconciliations. The Accounting Specialist may have core duties in one or more accounting processes and can support all functions as needed. The position applies established accounting principles and procedures, exercises independent judgment within defined guidelines, and serves as an experienced resource for transactional accounting activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
- Independently process and maintain assigned accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, expense reporting, tax documentation, and collections.
- Ensure invoices, billings, and transactions are accurately recorded, properly coded, and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Prepare customer invoices based on approved billing information and input transactions into accounting systems.
- Assist with general ledger account reconciliations and help resolve routine discrepancies.
- Prepare analyses and supporting schedules related to assigned accounts and transactions.
- Respond to vendor and internal inquiries regarding transactional accounting matters.
- Assist with monthly close activities by preparing account reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain tax-related documentation and assist with preparation of routine tax filings as assigned.
- Help identify process issues or recurring discrepancies and recommend improvements to accounting staff or management.
- Monitor past due customer accounts and maintain ongoing customer relationships to negotiate and resolve past due client accounts and maintain a tracking system to manage the collections process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability to independently manage assigned accounting processes with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
EDUCATION
Associate's degree (A.A.) in accounting or a related field required. Equivalent experience of at least three years may be substituted.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one year of accounting experience performing transactional accounting functions. Experience with accounting systems and reconciliations required.

Salary Range: $22 - $28 per hour
