Job Title: Dental Dispensary Technician I or II (Dental Care I or II)

Job Summary:

This open-rank Dental Dispensary Technician position will decontaminate, clean, and provide basic maintenance of instruments and equipment in the dental operatories and clinical units as assigned. To provide support in assigned clinical units. including undergraduate dental student clinics, in all areas of four handed dentistry which include, but not limited to, restorative, periodontal, surgical, and all other related procedures.

Positions hired at the Dental Care II (Dental Dispensary Technician II) level will be responsible for the same responsibilities as those in the Dental Care I (Dental Dispensary Technician I) in addition to added responsibilities unique to the higher level.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinic Support - 50% (Essential Function)

  • Cleans and decontaminates and provides maintenance of instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques.

  • Ensures proper functioning of equipment

  • Cleans sanitizing machines and equipment.

  • Maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution.

Instrument Preparation - 35% (Essential Function)

  • Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units

  • Collects used instruments and moves them for sterilization.

  • Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for residents, faculty and undergraduate students to be used during dental treatment.

Monitoring Supplies and Materials - 10% (Essential Function)

  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment and materials for the clinical area of responsibility.

  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of dental materials, their use, maintenance and storage.

Clinical Education Support - 5% (Essential Function)

  • Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support.

Minimum Qualifications:

Dental Dispensary Technician I:

  • One year of current dental assisting experience.

    • Substitution: Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.

  • Current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Dental Dispensary Technician II:

  • Two years of current dental assisting experience.

    • Substitution: Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. Preferred Qualifications (All Levels):

  • Current dental assisting experience that includes, but not limited to, decontamination, cleaning, sterilizing, and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment.

  • Experience with dental instrument terminology.

  • Experience working with sterilizing and dispensing dental instruments, and equipment.

  • Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office.

  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education and/or academic medical environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications (Dental Dispensary Technician II Level):

  • Two years of current dental assisting experience specific to the dental care specialty/unit, that includes, but not limited to, decontamination, cleaning, sterilizing, and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment.

  • Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

  • $3,378.25 - $3,918.42 per month ($40,539- $47,021 per year) for a Dispensary Technician I

  • $3,724 - $4,321 per month ($44,688- $51,846 per year) for a Dispensary Technician II.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.
