General Description:

As a strategic member of the College of Liberal Arts' Marketing & Communications team, the Video Producer plays an essential role in supporting and advancing the reputation of the college. The Videographer will join a team of communicators to help tell the story of liberal arts education at one of the world's top public research institutions, and bring to life engaging and inspiring stories that further the College's strategic priorities. The successful candidate is responsible for helping to effectively shape the CLA brand and persona through long- and short-form video.

This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a creative and collaborative team setting, and enjoys creating bold and imaginative multimedia content. The Videographer will manage multiple creative projects and collaborate across CLA units to ensure consistent and effective visual messaging and branding across all platforms. This role is pivotal in aligning CLA's visual communications with the college's strategic goals and adhering to University standards.

Work Expectation:

We offer a flexible, hybrid work environment with a set schedule of in-person team meetings. This position will occasionally travel to various locations on- and off-campus and film at events or activities outside of normal working hours.

Video Pre-Production, Production, & Post-Production (65%)

  • Work with marketing communications colleagues and CLA units to identify opportunities for content creation.
  • Develop video concepts and styles to convey information, story, and message.
  • Create timelines; collaborate with clients on script development, and determine priorities to meet production goals.
  • Develop estimates and establish budgets should a production require external resources (equipment rental, freelancer).
  • Arrange for outside contractors as needed for specialty work, including videography, closed captioning, etc.
  • Coordinate scouting and scheduling for video shoots, projects and/or events, including locations, equipment and talent.
  • Conduct interviews and execute field production work.
  • Direct all production elements such as lighting, audio and camera for video production shoots in the studio or field.
  • Set up and operate cameras, lighting equipment, teleprompter, wireless microphones, and other audio equipment; films segment; and monitors and adjusts equipment during recording/taping sessions.
  • Direct and coach talent on camera including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members.
  • Obtain required permissions, releases and licenses for subjects and materials.
  • Editing and post-production of video projects.
  • Applies computer graphics and special effects for video post-production in accordance with the overall production concepts.
  • Consults with graphic and multimedia designers to make videos available in a variety of formats, and coordinates internal and external duplication services as the need arises.
  • Provide final deliverables in appropriate formats for integration into other multimedia projects.

Project & Asset Management (30%)

  • Manage concurrent creative projects from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather project requirements, provide updates, and obtain approvals.
  • Manage videoshoot scheduling, logistics, releases, processing, editing, file management, delivery, and curating of visuals.
  • Maintain and update internal video brand guidelines, ensuring all deliverables meet accessibility standards, technical specifications, and best practices for diverse platforms, including social media.
  • Develop and adhere to workflows established in Asana to maximize efficiency.
  • Work with vendors if a project requires outside assistance.
  • Archive video footage in an accessible and organized format.
  • Handle b-roll requests and regularly updates the College's photo and video library.
  • Develop College-wide branded assets
  • Manage information about existing available video production equipment and software, and forecast equipment and software needs.

Professional Development (5%)

  • Complete professional development, education, and training activities, consistent with handling the responsibilities of the position.
  • Complete continued learning and development appropriate to work duties for the pursuit of individual, unit, and institutional success.
  • Stay current on project management and video trends.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Art or related field plus 2 years professional experience, or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experience with live and recorded video production
  • Experience in a variety of post-production techniques; creating polished media packages.
  • Experience with professional media production software such as, but not limited to Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve.
  • Experience with current HD video standards, including AVCHD and HDSLR workflows.
  • Knowledge of common video and audio file formats and compression types
  • Experience with video and audio production, including camera operation, lighting, operating audio consoles and microphones
  • Experience with Asana or related project management tools
  • Excellent writing skills and good attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to on-site video shoots
  • Ability to lift and set-up equipment including lighting, cameras, and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with a higher education setting.
  • Experience with and an interest in use of new technologies, like AI tools, in video production.
  • Experience with professionally managing talent and leadership in video production situations, including coaching of line delivery. Ability to build trust quickly with camera-shy or anxious participants.
  • Experience ensuring that video productions meet the highest accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, technology and standards of video production and shot composition.
  • Skilled at creative storytelling and use of innovative techniques.
  • Proficient in planning, researching, scripting, blocking, organizing, storyboarding, editing, lighting, and staging video productions.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks, consistently meet deadlines, and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to work as part of a team.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $31.00 - $36.50 / hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
