What to Expect
The Factory Firmware team is seeking a Software Integration Engineer to architect and deploy the next generation of vehicle diagnostic systems to support mass production across all Tesla's vehicle platforms. In this role, you will design the diagnostics infrastructure and tooling that compliments the vehicle's subsystems testing, validation, and supports operations swiftly identifying and actioning diagnostics to meet rigorous KPIs. Your mission is to engineer scalable, automated diagnostic solutions that operate at the intersection of R&D and global production. You will be responsible for building the tools that perform deep-system interrogation, identifying hardware-software mismatches, and latent defects with precision. You will drive systemic improvements that ensure our vehicles are the highest quality and most reliable on the road.
What You'll Do
- Architect diagnostic frameworks, design and develop robust software tools that interface with vehicle ECUs to perform high-speed, automated validation of firmware and hardware subsystems
- Engineer end-to-end diagnostic routines that catch "edge case" defects, ensuring that safety-critical systems (Autopilot, Battery, Drive Unit) are fully functional and calibrated prior to customer delivery
- Build and deploy automated diagnostic agents and scripts that reduce human-in-the-loop dependencies, driving both precision and throughput in the validation cycle
- Leverage vehicle logs and big-data analytics to identify systemic failures, feeding insights back to R&D teams to influence future hardware and software design iterations
- Ensure diagnostic tooling is modular and scalable, allowing for rapid deployment across new vehicle platforms and global production sites
- Lead specialized engineering projects and implement "bridge" solutions as required by leadership to address emerging technical challenges during new product launches
What You'll Bring
- Degree in CS, EE, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong skills in Python, C++, or TypeScript, with a focus on building tools that interface with embedded hardware
- Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (CAN, UDS, Ethernet) and how to query complex electronic systems
- A "First Principles" approach to troubleshooting; ability to look at a failure and design a software-based solution to prevent it from recurring
- Experience bringing new products from prototype to a validated, production-ready state
- Familiarity with data visualization and telemetry tools (e.g., Splunk, Grafana, SQL) to track diagnostic health and fleet trends
