Join us and help shape the future of Lhoist North America. POSITION SUMMARY: The Process Assistant performs general plant labor across all operational areas and supports safe, efficient production. This role requires operating, maintaining, and monitoring production and material-handling equipment, performing housekeeping duties, supporting kiln operations, and assisting with maintenance and outage work. Safety is the most critical aspect of all job responsibilities. RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: General Plant Operations
Perform general plant labor in all operational areas as assigned. Demonstrate and maintain a working knowledge of kiln and kiln-related systems. Assist with kiln outage work as required. Learn and cross-train in multiple plant positions to support operational flexibility. Perform duties in the quarry, kiln, and shipping areas as needed.
Equipment Operation & Material Handling
Safely operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to: Vacuum truck, Haul truck, Loader, bobcat, forklift, and man lift. Load trucks and ensure proper distribution of products into designated bins. Monitor equipment flow, remove blockages safely, and respond to changing operating conditions. Maintain familiarity with equipment capacities and load limits on stone, dust, and lime handling systems.
Monitoring, Inspections, & Housekeeping
Continuously observe, monitor, and report conditions that could lead to equipment failure or safety hazards. Complete required equipment and work area inspections accurately and on time. Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning bins, conveyors, catwalks, spills, and surrounding work areas. Accurately measure and report silo inventories.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting Support
Assist maintenance personnel with preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs. Support troubleshooting and resolution of production issues. Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance (PM) tasks as assigned.
Safety & Compliance
Perform all work in a neat, orderly, and safe manner. Strictly adhere to all company and government safety rules and regulations, including Lockout/Tagout procedures. Report potential operational, environmental, or safety concerns to management immediately. Maintain a strong commitment to safety in all job tasks.
Documentation & Communication
Read, write, and interpret work orders, safety rules, SOPs, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Accurately complete required reports, inspections, and production documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
Operate kilns and plant equipment from the control room as needed. Perform quality testing related to kiln, quarry, and shipping operations. Be fully capable of performing the roles and responsibilities of Load Out Technicians. Perform other duties as assigned.
ATTRIBUTES:
Industrial or manufacturing background with strong troubleshooting skills. Working knowledge of current environmental regulations and best practices related to the lime industry. Prior experience operating heavy equipment is preferred. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately. Must possess a working telephone and be willing to respond to call-outs as required. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with supervisors, managers, and peers in a fast-paced industrial environment. Basic computer operation skills preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Ability to work shift schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment operation is a plus; at minimum, the ability to safely operate an over-the-road haul truck. Proven history of safe vehicle operation, as demonstrated by an acceptable driving record. Ability to comply with all required task training and safety certifications. Ability to tolerate outdoor work in severe weather conditions, as well as exposure to industrial environments that include high temperatures, noise, and dust. Ability to access all areas of the facility, including Heights up to 180 feet, Confined spaces, Ladders, stairs, and elevated walkways, Tunnels and enclosed areas.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED Equivalent, or demonstrated skills or ability. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Previous labor experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is preferred.
