As a dockhand at The Marina at Rowes Wharf there are a multitude of tasks that must be completed, some which fall out of the realm of most maritime operations. All of these tasks regardless of stature are to be carried out swiftly and efficiently so as to keep the Marina and Property in optimum shape. Keep in mind that as a dockhand you reflect not only the Marina, but also the hotel and Property as a whole.

As is insinuated by the name, as a dockhand your first priority is the docks. You are expected to help any customers and clients whether they are a 100 foot mega yacht or a 12 foot Boston whaler. It is our job to assist in anyway that does not put ourselves in danger. In every interaction it is expected of the dockhand to be as courteous as possible.

The dockhand at The Marina at Rowes Wharf has the responsibility to perform the operations of the Marina at Rowes Wharf.

On the Marina side, duties include maintenance of the docks, gangways, power pedestals and the supporting structures thereof. These duties include

  • Cleaning docks, gangways and power pedestals.

  • Preserving the docks through weather-proofing applications.

  • Maintaining the docks by securing or replacing loose or worn boards

  • Replacing worn pile guide rollers

  • Replacing worn soft joints that help hold the dock sections together

  • Cleaning all in-water structures of excessive growth of sea life

  • Emptying trash-totes

Maintenance of the gangways includes:

  • Polishing the rails

  • Replacing non-skid strips

  • Replacing runners

  • Replacing transition plates

  • Replacing end rollers on gang ways

Maintaining power pedestals include:

  • Keeping power pedestals in physical functioning order

  • Coiling electrical cords and hoses to remove trip hazards

  • Replacing light bulbs

  • Reporting any internal structure problems with pedestals to management

Customer Service:

  • Assist boaters in docking their boats

  • Line tending

  • Slip assignment and locations

  • Communicating with boaters using hand-held VHF radios

  • Assisting boater in locating land based necessities, amusements, and amenities

  • Hooking boaters up to pedestal service

  • Selling Ice

  • Delivering mail and packages

  • Helping boaters with cargo and provisions

  • Be an ambassador for the property

In Summer Series operations the dock hand is responsible for maintaining the Blues Barge.

Maintenance of the Blue Barge includes:

  • Rust Removal and Paint

  • Line tensioning

  • Maintaining a clean surface area

  • Keeping the surface dry after rain.

  • Checking guide wires on perimeter of barge

  • Reporting any problems to management

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

18.00 - 18.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
