Summary
The Mentor position is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the activities scheduled for the Apprenticeship in Medicine program's six-week summer curriculum for high school students of diverse backgrounds. The purpose of the program is to increase the number of persons from diverse backgrounds in medicine and other health care professions. This position assists in providing a variety of "hands-on" clinical experiences to students to gain an understanding and appreciation of common, important medical problems that have an impact on their community. Qualified candidates must be culturally sensitive and able to work with a diverse high school student population; and must have a serious interest in the academic development of youth Dimensions
This position's responsibilities are performed at the Medical College of Wisconsin. There will be a team of medical students serving as mentors that will be responsible for supervising a minimum of 20 high school students. The Mentor position is a seven (7) week summer position that includes one (1) week of preparation time prior to the start of the program. Primary Responsibilities

Qualifications
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis. Minimum Required Education: Enrolled in college Preferred Experience: Prior experience in an educational setting, tutoring, preparation of lesson plans or classroom teaching is highly desirable. Physical Requirements
Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. Work Environment
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. Sensory Acuity
Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
