Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Political Science is composed of 15 full-time faculty. It offers BS and BA degrees in Political Science, BS in Security Studies and minors in leadership studies and security studies at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, it offers a NASPAA accredited Master of Public Administration degree, a Master of Science in Security Studies, and a certificate in Security Studies. The department emphasizes excellent teaching, quality research, and a tradition of service to the community, university, and the discipline. Department members collaborate regularly with colleagues in the college and broader university. They are also active participants in the Center for Survey Research and the Water Resources Center. Job Duties
The Department of Political Science invites applications for a 9-month fixed-term faculty position as a Teaching Instructor, Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor to begin August 2026. This 1.0 FTE appointment will carry an 8-course teaching load in Political Science, with a concentration in prelaw. The anticipated teaching assignment is 4 courses per semester during the academic year, including civil liberties, American judiciary, constitutional powers, legal negotiation, and legal writing.
100% of workload (8 courses per academic year) will be devoted to teaching face-to-face classes for the department.

Minimum Education/Experience
For Teaching Instructor, a Master's degree in Political Science with a focus on prelaw, with a minimum of 18 graduate level semester hours in the teaching field required.

For Teaching Assistant Professor, a PhD in Political Science or a closely related field such as prelaw, is required. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position.

For Teaching Associate Professor, a PhD in Political Science, or a closely related field such as prelaw. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position. Candidates at the Teaching Associate Professor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least five years.

For Teaching Professor, a PhD in Political Science or a closely related field such as prelaw is required. An EdD is not an appropriate credential for this position. Candidates at the Teaching Professor rank should have a strong record of teaching in a university environment (face-to-face and online education) for at least eleven years.

A JD alone at any rank is not a sufficient academic credential for this position.

Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
