The Muskego-Norway School District is seeking a highly qualified Registered Nurse to serve as the District Nurse, providing oversight for all school buildings starting in the 2026-27 school year.

The District Nurse supports the educational process by identifying and reducing health-related barriers to learning while promoting the overall wellness of students and staff. This position serves as the
district's lead health professional, providing direct nursing services, ensuring compliance with Wisconsin laws and public health requirements, and coordinating care among families, schools, and healthcare providers. The District Nurse also leads and supervises health room aides across all schools in partnership with building principals, ensuring consistent, high-quality health services district-wide.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assess student health needs and provide care using the nursing process;
  • Develop and implement Individual Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs);
  • Provide emergency care and coordinate EMS when necessary;
  • Administer and oversee medications in compliance with Wisconsin law;
  • Conduct and/or supervise screenings (vision, hearing) and follow-up care;
  • Maintain accurate, confidential student health records;
  • Ensure compliance with Wisconsin Student Immunization Law;
  • Monitor and manage communicable diseases in coordination with local and state health departments;
  • Complete required reporting, including the Annual School Health Services Report;
  • Assist with student exclusion decisions during illness or outbreaks;
  • Adhere to the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act and all applicable regulations.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise health room aides across all buildings in collaboration with principals;
  • Maintain a working relationship with a licensed physician;
  • Assign work, establish priorities, and ensure consistent procedures;
  • Train staff on health-related policies, procedures, and emergency response;
  • Support staffing coordination and health service coverage across the district.

Training, Collaboration & Communication

  • Train staff on medication administration, CPR/AED, First Aid, and bloodborne pathogens;
  • Serve as liaison between schools, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies;
  • Participate in IEP/504 teams for students with medical needs;
  • Provide health education and guidance to students, staff, and families;
  • Assist in the development of district health policies and procedures.

Operations & Professional Responsibilities

  • Manage health room supplies and equipment;
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized health offices;
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information;
  • Engage in ongoing professional development;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
