Job Summary
The Security Field Engineer is responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning commercial security systems in large-scale commercial and hyperscale construction environments. This role supports the deployment of access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and related low-voltage infrastructure according to engineered drawings, project specifications, and manufacturer standards. The position ensures systems are properly networked, fully tested, and operational for end users. In addition to installation and commissioning, the role includes field engineering responsibilities such as validating infrastructure against design documentation, producing redline drawings, coordinating RFIs, supporting system audits, and assisting with closeout and warranty documentation. The Security Field Engineer collaborates with project teams, contractors, and end users while providing on-site technical leadership and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities



  • Install, program, commission, and troubleshoot commercial security systems including access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems
  • Install and configure access control hardware including control panels, readers, electric strikes, and magnetic locks
  • Deploy and configure IP and analog cameras, network video recorders, and video management systems
  • Perform system testing and validation to confirm cameras, readers, alarm points, and networking components operate as designed
  • Configure IP networking components including switches, routers, IP addressing, and port forwarding for security system integration
  • Install and terminate low-voltage cabling including CAT5e, CAT6, and multi-conductor security cable
  • Interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to ensure installations meet design requirements
  • Verify field installations against project documentation and produce redline drawings to document design changes
  • Coordinate and reference RFIs during installation and documentation processes
  • Conduct system testing audits to verify results align with project specifications and cable schedules
  • Support project closeout activities including testing verification, documentation packages, and compliance validation
  • Assist with preparation and submission of product submittals including verification of bill of materials and product documentation
  • Collect and organize documentation required for warranty processing and project turnover
  • Support installation teams by coordinating labeling, documentation, and system verification tasks
  • Provide on-site technical leadership and coordinate with project teams, contractors, and customers
  • Train end users and site personnel on system operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Participate in project reviews and contribute to lessons learned documentation
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with jobsite safety requirements and industry best practices
  • Travel to project sites nationwide to support installation and commissioning activities


Job Requirements



  • Minimum 5 years of experience installing commercial security systems including CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience installing and troubleshooting access control hardware including panels, readers, strikes, and magnetic locks
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with IP networking including IP addressing, switching, routing, and port forwarding
  • Demonstrated experience programming and commissioning access control systems, video management systems, and alarm platforms
  • Strong proficiency installing IP and analog cameras, configuring NVR systems, and deploying client software
  • Experience pulling, routing, and terminating CAT5e, CAT6, and security cable
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and project documentation
  • Experience performing system validation, troubleshooting, and final testing prior to customer turnover
  • Ability to diagnose and repair issues with installed security equipment and infrastructure
  • Experience working in large-scale commercial construction or hyperscale environments preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with project teams and contractors
  • Ability to travel extensively and work in active construction environments
  • Ability to safely use ladders, lifts, and standard field tools required for installation
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience supporting engineering documentation activities including redlines, testing audits, and project closeout documentation


Education



  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in engineering, electronics, information technology, or a related field preferred


Work Experience



  • 5+ years of experience installing commercial security systems
  • Experience working in hyperscale data center or large-scale commercial construction environments preferred
  • Experience coordinating with general contractors, project managers, and installation teams on active job sites preferred

  • Travel-based position supporting projects nationwide
  • National travel required for project deployments
  • Travel and lodging provided for project assignments
  • Per diem provided at $50 per day during travel assignments
  • Employees typically return home every 2 to 4 weeks depending on project schedule
  • Typical schedule begins around 7:00 AM with approximately 40 to 50 hours per week depending on project demand
