Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Center for Reproductive Health (CRH) and UCSF Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the physician staff, the Registered Nurse (RN) role crosses care settings to promote health and healing for a specific patient population. The primary focus of the role is to improve access, timeliness to treatment and care coordination within the healthcare organization. The nurse performs established nursing procedures using clinical knowledge to care for patients. The RN collaborates with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team in providing excellent clinical care to all patients attending CRH for medical services and treatment. The nurse consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor. The RN is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert and actively promotes the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions, demonstrates competence in the management of patient flow and daily clinic operations, and possesses expertise in the specialty nursing area and specific patient population of REI (Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility). The RN provides expert nursing care to all patients who are receiving assisted and routine reproductive techniques and services. These duties include in-person consultations with patients and/or their partners throughout the care continuum; patient treatment and medication instruction; EMR charting and documentation, preparing treatment schedules; assessment, management, and monitoring of patient medication needs; assisting with various clinical procedures; efficiently communicating all patient treatment and scheduling needs with the patient and the multidisciplinary team involved in their care; triaging patient phone calls and coordinating patient care between the various practice teams. The nurse will assess patient needs and, in collaboration with physicians, plan appropriate treatment interventions and evaluate patient response to treatments. The RN will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team comprised but not limited to: physicians, fellows, medical assistants, Practice Coordinators, front desk staff, billing staff, Patient Financial Navigators, anesthesiologists, embryologists, embryology and lab team members, procedure nurse team members and administration. The nurse shall comply with the medical center house and telephone standards and EMR standards. The RN will assess health needs and perform functions specific to routine and assisted reproductive techniques, including but not limited to andrology, gynecological treatments, in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, fertility preservation for patients (oncology and gender transition), PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), endometriosis, and male urology patients (microsurgical sperm extraction). The RN will assess patient needs, develop appropriate plans of care according to nursing practice standards, and evaluate and participate in care for patients/couples during their reproductive health treatments, office visits, and IVF cycles. The nurse will utilize specialized knowledge and skills for evaluation and teaching within this patient population and may act as a resource person within the organization and/or community. The Registered Nurse will work within the CRH practice performing daily clinical procedures related to assisted reproductive technologies and other fertility related treatments as well as general health status evaluations as follows:

- Serves as a liaison and resource for patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in the provision of care to the patient from the intake process through completion of treatment by providing nursing assessment and triage as appropriate
- Provides telephone and in-person instruction and clinical expertise to the patient throughout the continuum of care (from intake to completion of treatment) including the review of detailed treatment plan appointment calendars, medication and injection instructions, prescription management strategies, need for follow-up visits and other related clinical care information as needed
- Ensures new patients are scheduled with the appropriate provider at the appropriate timeframe
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure necessary medical information is complete and available for all patient appointments including blood work and imaging
- Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary care team to assist with and coordinate all diagnostic and laboratory studies required to expedite the treatment planning process
- Provides educational and emotional support throughout the intake and treatment planning process and refers patients to appropriate supportive services based on assessments from members of the multidisciplinary team
- Coordinates patient contacts, patient education, and prepares patients for procedures/tests in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
- Assists with patient cycle monitoring during treatment, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members in the coordination and execution of the patients plan of care throughout the treatment continuum for reproductive and other fertility related treatments
- Assesses learning needs of specific patient populations and develops appropriate curriculum to meet the patient's specific needs
- Collaborates with physicians and other multidisciplinary members of the patient's care team (inside and outside of UCSF) to ensure follow up and treatment plans are communicated
- Assists in the development of clinical goals and objectives for the Center for Reproductive Health
- Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, utilizing information from relevant sources, such as databases and benchmarks for the efficient, economical, and competent performance as a part of UCSF Medical Centers Mission, Goals, and Values
- Maintains accurate and current knowledge base of principles, practice standards, emerging technologies, and research findings, as well as local, state and national health-related resources and services relevant to the patient population under the care of the Center for Reproductive Health
- Demonstrates leadership through participating in department and hospital committees, councils and task forces
- Ability to integrate patient care with other members of the interdisciplinary health care team and provide direction or guidance to non-licensed personnel in the assigned area of responsibility to ensure quality care
