The Energy Efficiency Auditor is a key member of our outside sales team, working directly with commercial customers to identify energy-saving opportunities and help businesses take advantage of utility-sponsored incentive programs.This role focuses on business development, customer engagement, relationship building, and gathering site information needed to develop project proposals. The ideal candidate enjoys meeting new people, generating leads, conducting site visits, and helping customers navigate available energy efficiency programs. While a basic understanding of energy-saving technologies is helpful, this is primarily a sales-focused position rather than an engineering role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Generate new business opportunities through door-to-door canvassing, networking, referrals, and follow-up on company-provided leads.
- Meet with commercial customers to discuss energy efficiency programs, utility incentives, and available upgrade opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through consistent communication and follow-up.
- Conduct site visits to gather basic facility information, equipment details, and customer requirements needed for proposal development.
- Collect and document project information, customer feedback, and site observations using company software platforms, including ViewPoint, ViewPoint DI, and Prospector.
- Verify and update customer information to ensure accurate records.
- Explain program eligibility requirements and assist customers with enrollment and participation in utility-sponsored programs.
- Present proposals and help customers understand the potential benefits, incentives, and cost savings available through recommended improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, site visits, sales activity, and follow-up schedules.
- Participate in weekly and monthly sales meetings to review pipeline activity, prospecting efforts, and program goals.
- Attend trade shows, community events, business networking events, and outreach activities as needed.
- Consistently work toward achieving established sales goals and performance objectives.
- Represent the company professionally while delivering excellent customer service.
- Maintain and safeguard company-issued equipment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Required
- Minimum 1 year of outside sales, customer service, business development, or related experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong sales and customer-focused mindset.
- Comfortable speaking with business owners, facility managers, and decision-makers.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple customer opportunities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and mobile technology, including tablets and laptops.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Preferred
- Associate degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in commercial sales, energy efficiency programs, construction services, facilities management, or related industries.
- Familiarity with lighting, refrigeration, HVAC, insulation, or other energy-saving technologies.
- Experience with CRM systems and sales tracking platforms.
- Proven success generating leads and developing customer relationships.
- Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel locally throughout the assigned territory.
- Travel may account for up to 70% of work time and may include driving, public transportation, rail, or occasional air travel as needed.
