This role will drive the development and operationalization of Verizon's AI security governance program - ensuring AI systems are deployed securely, responsibly, and in alignment with enterprise risk, regulatory and cybersecurity requirements.

The Associate Director will lead the identification, assessment, and treatment of risks associated with Verizon's use of AI, while helping shape the enterprise-wide control framework for AI technologies. This includes aligning policies, standards and security controls with industry frameworks while partnering across CyberSecurity, Legal, Privacy, Responsible AI, Architecture, and Technology teams to embed security and governance throughout the AI lifecycle. The leader will serve as both a strategic advisor and operational driver - capable of translating complex AI and cybersecurity risks into clear, actionable guidance for technical and executive stakeholders alike. The role will oversee the development of scalable AI risk assessment methodologies, centralized AI risk visibility and reporting, AI control validation process and governance mechanisms that evolve alongside emerging AI capabilities, threats and regulatory expectations.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of cybersecurity, risk management, and AI expertise. They should be very comfortable in a fast-moving environment, influencing senior stakeholders and driving clarity across ambiguous or rapidly evolving areas of AI governance and security. This role will play a critical part in Verizon's long-term AI security operating model - helping ensure the company can safely accelerate AI adoption while maintaining strong governance, regulatory alignment, and cyber resilience.

  • Owning the vision, roadmap, and execution of Verizon's AI GRC team.

  • Ensuring AI-centric risk management processes and outcomes are established through policies and controls based on organizational priorities and tolerance.

  • Performing regular reviews of AI applications for compliance and alignment, documenting the risks and mitigation strategies as part of the risk management review process.

  • Documenting processes for information/technology risk assessments and thresholds to warrant a more in-depth review.

  • Leading the creation of automation for 80%+ of the AI risk assessment process.

  • Overseeing the creation of an AI compliance program and dashboard.

  • Facilitating an AI security training program, including content creation and creation, that ensures the business is aware of AI cyber risk and associated best practices.

  • Guiding the review and prioritization of AI projects in alignment with organizational risk priorities.

  • Ensuring timely and well orchestrated Verizon Cyber Security (VCS) engagement in Verizon's secure AI efforts.

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the business and technology stakeholders across the enterprise to partner on AI security concerns.

This position can be located in other valid Verizon locations.

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:

  • Eight or more years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, and/or AI disciplines with progressive leadership responsibilities, including at least 3 years focused on AI/ML security technologies.

  • Experience performing comprehensive risk assessments.

Even better if you have:
  • Strong technical knowledge of AI / ML technologies.

  • Experience with security policy creation.
