| Position Summary |
Position Description
The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a full-time, open-rank faculty member in the Division of Breast Imaging who will also serve as Division Chief of Breast Imaging. We welcome applicants seeking to join and lead a vibrant division of breast imaging radiologists dedicated to excellence in patient care, education of breast imaging fellows, diagnostic radiology residents, and medical students, scholarly endeavors, and collaborative multidisciplinary care.
This leadership opportunity is ideal for an accomplished breast imaging radiologist interested in advancing clinical excellence, education, faculty development, and program growth within a nationally recognized academic health system. The Division Chief will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Division of Breast Imaging, supporting divisional priorities across clinical care, education, faculty mentorship and development, quality initiatives, and multidisciplinary collaboration, while partnering with departmental and health system leadership to support continued growth of breast imaging services across
UNC Health.
Our facilities are designated
ACR Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence and are
MQSA-certified. Breast Imaging Radiologists perform the full spectrum of breast imaging and minimally invasive breast procedures and are active participants in a multidisciplinary team approach to breast disease.
Position Responsibilities
This position includes a combination of clinical, educational, scholarly, and leadership responsibilities.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Interpret the full spectrum of breast imaging, including screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.
- Perform minimally invasive breast biopsies and related interventions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary breast conferences and collaborative care planning.
- Provide clinical services primarily in a teaching environment with fellow, resident, and medical student participation.
Leadership Responsibilities
- As Division Chief of Breast Imaging, the selected candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership for the division's clinical, educational, and growth priorities.
- Support faculty recruitment, mentorship, retention, and professional development.
- Partner with departmental and health system leadership to optimize quality, operations, access, and programmatic growth across UNC Health breast imaging services.
- Foster a collaborative and academically engaged division culture while supporting accreditation and compliance efforts, including MQSA and ACR standards.
Academic Responsibilities
- Educate and mentor breast imaging fellows, diagnostic radiology residents, and medical students.
- Participate in scholarly activity, quality initiatives, and/or research aligned with divisional priorities.
- Contribute to the academic mission of the Department of Radiology through teaching, service, and institutional engagement.
Appointment Details
This is an open rank, fixed term faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- MD, DO, or equivalent degree
- American Board of Radiology certification or board eligibility
- Completion of a Breast Imaging Fellowship or equivalent breast imaging experience
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina
MQSA qualification requirements met- Expertise in all aspects of breast imaging, including breast MRI and image-guided breast procedures
