About the Job

The Transfer Admissions Counselor recruits, evaluates, and advises prospective transfer students to meet institutional enrollment goals. The Transfer Admission Counselor is responsible for recruiting, advising, and supporting prospective transfer students throughout the admission process at UMR. This role focuses on building relationships with community colleges, The counselor will guide students on transfer credits, degree pathways, financial aid options, and university resources to enhance transfer student enrollment and retention.

Location and Work environment:

Position is located within the Enrollment Management/Admissions office areas on the Rochester campus. The position is in-person on the Rochester campus, with limited flexibility.

Work Schedule:

Position is Monday through Friday, normal campus office hours. Some weekend and nights will be required.
Admissions Representatives must be able to travel. Overnight visits may be required (travel reimbursement is provided).
Applicants must be willing to work beyond an 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. work schedule to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Expected Contributions:
This position contributes to the University by supporting the recruitment of new students and achieving University enrollment goals.

This position works in-person in Rochester, MN. This role is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position is contingent upon confirmed student enrollment for the upcoming term.

Primary Responsibilities
75% Recruitment
Manage an assigned recruitment territory.
Recruit transfer students to the undergraduate health sciences and BSHP programs of the University of Minnesota Rochester, including but not limited to the following activities:
Community College visits: The representative will travel to community colleges to cultivate relationships with counselors and interested students. The representative will assist in the development of a travel schedule and will be responsible for making detailed arrangements.
College fair participation: The representative will take an active role in coordination and participation at college fairs.
Campus visits: The representative participates in campus visit days, including group presentations and campus tours as well as individual visits.
Personal Correspondence: The representative is expected to manage application and enrollment-specific communications. This includes recruiting students through personal contact via text, phone, e-mail, social media, print publications, personalized letters and other appropriate forms of communication. Each representative will contribute to the success of the communication flow established by the Admissions and Recruitment Marketing team.
Develop preliminary transfer evaluations for applicants.
Accurate, Up-to-Date Record Keeping: UMR values evidence-based decision making. The representative will utilize and maintain accurate data in software systems. The representative will keep detailed records of student contacts.
Participate in on-and off-campus recruitment events and activities.
Manage special projects as assigned.

25% Office of Admissions Teamwork / Application Processing Management:
Participate actively and collaboratively in regular team meetings to coordinate activities.
Conduct individual admission interviews with prospective students and families.
Contribute to the daily operation of the Office of Admissions, as assigned by the Director.
Engage in professional development to serve recruitment endeavors.
Evaluate applications, transcripts, letters of recommendation and other supplemental materials.
Manage projects and workflow to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of post-graduate experience or master's degree
Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of experience in admissions, student recruitment, the transfer process, or multicultural student support; or related experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (for data reconciliation) and experience with Student Information Systems or CRMs (e.g., Slate).
High emotional intelligence for handling sensitive financial conversations with families and extreme attention to detail to avoid over-awarding budgets.
Demonstrated intercultural competence, including experience working in diverse communities.
Experience working with an accredited, not-for-profit institution.
Fluent in English and one other language eg. Spanish, Hmong, Somali.
Ability to work in an innovative, collaborative, and competitive environment.
Demonstrated commitment to UMR values: evidence-based decision making; diversity and inclusion; respect; human potential; and community.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and take initiative, working independently without supervision.
Excellent communication skills including writing (especially emails) and public speaking.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $48,000 - $58,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
