Job Description:

The Alexandria City High School Campus Principal acts on behalf of the Alexandria City High School Principal in leading an assigned campus within Alexandria City High School. The Campus Principal serves as the lead administrator for the campus and is responsible for the overall coordination and oversight of campus operations, student support systems, school climate, safety and security, family and community engagement, and the supervision of campus-based administrators and staff. The Campus Principal is empowered to act decisively on behalf of the campus while maintaining open communication with the ACHS - High School Principal on matters of shared concern or division-wide impact.

The Campus Principal maintains strong oversight of instructional programming, the School Improvement Plan, MTSS structures, academy implementation, and student achievement data while working collaboratively with lead administrators, academy principals, assistant principals, department chairs, deans, counselors, central office staff, families, and community partners. Although designated leaders may manage the day-to-day implementation of specific instructional, academy, MTSS, counseling, scheduling, or student support responsibilities, the Campus Principal ensures alignment, accountability, and the overall effectiveness of the campus.

The Campus Principal collaborates with school and division leadership to ensure coherent systems, high expectations, a safe and orderly learning environment, and equitable outcomes for all students. The Campus Principal works in close coordination with fellow Campus Principals to ensure alignment of expectations, practices, and communication across Alexandria City High School. Campus Principals participate in regular joint leadership meetings and collaborate on cross-campus initiatives, student transitions, shared programming, and school-wide events. This 12-month Adminstration position reports to the ACHS - High School Principal.

Qualifications:



  • Education: A Master's degree in Educational Leadership or a related field is required.


  • Certificates & Licenses: A A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching PostGraduate License, with the add-on endorsement in Adminstration & Supervision PreK-12. Candidates must have an "Active Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision, or eligible to submit and complete VDOE licensure application for an Administration and Supervision endorsement upon hire. Please note that the Adminstration & Supervision endorsement is not a stand alone endorsement


  • Experience:


    • Administrative and teaching experience related to working in socio-economically and culturally diverse school settings.
    • Three to five years of successful school-based administrative experience, preferably at the high school level.
    • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, administrators, families, community partners, and central office staff.
    • Experience leading or supervising large-scale school operations, student support systems, school climate initiatives, and campus-based teams.
    • Knowledge of instructional programming, school improvement planning, student achievement data, MTSS, academy structures, department-level collaboration, and culturally responsive practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate the work of administrators and staff who lead instruction, academies, student support, operations, counseling, discipline, and community engagement.
    • Experience supporting safe and orderly learning environments, positive student behavior systems, family engagement, and school-community partnerships.




Essential Functions:
Campus Leadership and School Improvement

  • Articulates and stewards the vision, mission, and priorities of Alexandria City High School and Alexandria City Public Schools.
  • Acts as the principal of the assigned campus and oversees the systems necessary for the campus to be high functioning and aligned with the broader Alexandria City High School model.
  • Leads, supervises, and evaluates assigned campus administrators and staff to ensure that school operations, student support, instructional programming, and community engagement are planned and implemented effectively.
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of the School Improvement Plan, related student achievement data, and progress toward school and division goals.
  • Provides oversight of the School Improvement Plan by monitoring implementation, ensuring alignment across campus teams, and collaborating with the instructional lead administrator responsible for day-to-day SIP management.
  • Uses student achievement, attendance, behavior, graduation, academy, and engagement data to monitor campus needs and support continuous improvement.
  • Supports the effectiveness of the campus-based leadership team, staff leadership structures, and MTSS processes.
  • Collaborates with the Alexandria City High School Principal, other Campus Principals, lead administrators, and central office staff to ensure consistent expectations and aligned practices across campuses.
  • Establishes expectations for high levels of student engagement, academic excellence, professional collaboration, and equitable outcomes for all students.


Instructional Leadership

  • Maintains oversight of the instructional program and ensures that campus practices are aligned with ACPS curriculum, assessment expectations, and division priorities.
  • Collaborates with the instructional lead administrator, academy principals, assistant principals, department chairs, and central office staff to monitor instructional programming, academy implementation, and student outcomes.
  • Maintains familiarity with the work of departments, Professional Learning Communities, instructional priorities, and data-informed practices that support student achievement.
  • Supports the implementation and continued development of the Academies at Alexandria City High School, including alignment among academy structures, student supports, community partnerships, and instructional programming.
  • Ensures that designated instructional leaders have coherent systems for academic review, curriculum implementation, assessment, professional learning, and instructional support.
  • Supports culturally responsive and equitable practices in master scheduling, student placement, instructional planning, student supports, and access to rigorous academic opportunities.
  • Monitors progress for special populations and student groups, including EL, SPED, TAG, Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, academy pathways, and other programs serving diverse student needs.
  • Promotes academic excellence in a nurturing environment and ensures that instructional and academy programs support college, career, and civic readiness.
  • Participates in school improvement, instructional, academy, and data meetings as needed to remain informed and ensure campus-level accountability.


School Operations and Learning Environment

  • Creates and nurtures a positive school climate with high levels of effective collaboration and communication with all stakeholders.
  • Leads the daily operations of the campus to ensure a safe, orderly, efficient, and effective learning environment.
  • Ensures appropriate student supervision, including arrivals and departures, attendance, parking lots, lunch periods, class transitions, study areas, extracurricular programs, athletic events, and other school-sponsored activities.
  • Collaborates with lead administrators, deans, student support staff, school security staff, and other personnel to support positive student behavior, restorative practices, PBIS, MTSS, and school climate initiatives.
  • Provides oversight for safety and security procedures, emergency preparedness, crisis response planning, drills, and coordination with division safety and security staff.
  • Maintains high standards for appropriate conduct with and for staff and students.
  • Supports staff selection, orientation, onboarding, mentoring, professional growth, and evaluation processes for certified and classified staff, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with directors, counselors, and other assigned leaders to support master scheduling, student services, attendance practices, and campus-based student support systems.
  • Serves as a point of contact for campus-specific outside service providers and ensures that operational needs are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Supports the planning process and implementation of systems across Alexandria City High School campuses to ensure alignment, consistency, and effective communication.


Parents and Community Engagement/Partnerships

  • Maintains open and effective communication with students, families, staff, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Addresses parent and community concerns and complaints in a timely, professional, and effective manner.
  • Responds to family and community concerns on behalf of the Alexandria City High School Principal when appropriate.
  • Encourages family organizations and supports school-sponsored activities, academy events, extracurricular programs, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Develops and sustains positive relationships with community organizations, business partners, outside agencies, and school-based support groups.
  • Monitors community demographics, resources, and emerging trends to ensure that campus programs and supports respond to student and family needs.
  • Fosters and maintains a strong community commitment of support for Alexandria City Public Schools and Alexandria City High School.
  • Collaborates with school and division leadership in the planning, preparation, and execution of school-community events, academy meetings, and campus-based engagement opportunities.
  • Serves as a visible representative of the campus, Alexandria City High School, and the school division within the broader community.


Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed by the Alexandria City High School Principal.
  • Assists with unexpected, urgent, and emergency situations as needed to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the high school campus.



Compensation:



  • Placement on the Administrator LAS-FA grade, determined by The ACPS Licensed Administrator Salary Scale


  • FLSA Status: Exempt position - This position is classified as exempt, meaning it is not eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.


Clearances:



  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
