Qualifications


Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in epidemiology.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in medicine (MD), osteopathic medicine (DO), veterinarian medicine (DVM) public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics health sciences, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public health or an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics with experience equivalent to four year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

OR

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in health science, biomedical science or environmental science with experience equivalent to six year's work experience in epidemiology.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

Overview

This position is in the Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) and Antimicrobial Resistance Program within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) division of the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). This position is currently funded from year to year through CDC cooperative agreements (grants). Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

  1. Managing data and conducting epidemiologic evaluations and studies with data generated through the Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (AR Lab Network)
  2. Performing programmatic project management activities related to HAI/AR and AR Lab Network projects
  3. Acting as the primary epi-lab liaison for the HAI/AR program and the TN state public health laboratory
  4. Establishing and maintaining REDCap databases to generate reports, process data, and to summarize laboratory outcome measures
  5. Participating in data collection, entry, cleaning, and analysis for various HAI projects
  6. Collaborating with external partners such as the Tennessee Center for Patient Safety, End Stage Renal Disease Network 8, the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, and other partners on HAI prevention activities
  7. Preparing and delivering presentations on HAIs, the AR Lab Network, and MDRO trends to local, state, and national partners
  8. Responding to urgent MDRO threats by implementing the containment strategy to prevent further spread
  9. Collecting epidemiological data on detected MDRO threats
  10. Participating in HAI non-MDRO related outbreak investigations as needed
  11. Assisting in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, scientific articles and presentations, and other deliverables
