Job Summary

The Journeyman Pipefitter/Welder is responsible for assembling, installing, welding, repairing, and testing piping systems in accordance with project specifications and applicable building codes. This role works under the direction of a leadman, foreman, or supervisor and plays a key role in supporting commercial and industrial construction projects.

Essential Duties

  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings to plan work and installation sequences
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and weld piping systems for:
    • Heating, cooling, gas, steam, and industrial processing systems
  • Perform welding using MIG, TIG, arc, and other welding methods
  • Select appropriate pipe materials and sizes based on specifications and system requirements
  • Lay out, position, align, and install pipes, valves, fittings, and hangers
  • Cut, thread, brazes, weld, and groove piping using hand and power tools
  • Measure, mark, and cut openings in walls and floors for pipe installation
  • Install sleeves and penetrations; assist with excavation and backfilling as needed
  • Test piping systems (air/water) to identify leaks and ensure proper functionality
  • Inspect job sites for installation challenges and report issues to leadership
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; follow all PPE and safety protocols
  • Support safety initiatives, including pre-task planning
  • Mentor and assist apprentices and junior team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years of pipefitting and welding experience in construction or industrial environments
  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade or craft training preferred
  • 6G Pipe Welding Certification (or ability to test and pass) required
  • Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Relevant equipment certifications required
  • Experience operating construction equipment (e.g., scissor lifts, forklifts)
