Here is how the Field Communications Specialist role will impact our business:

The Field Communications Specialist supports the reliability, availability, and security of industrial communication systems that enable SCADA operations, remote monitoring, automation, and field connectivity across operational assets.

The Field Communications Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot cellular routers/modems, wireless radios, satellite systems, managed switches, edge industrial computers, and serial communication systems.
  • Support SCADA, telemetry, and industrial communication networks.
  • Configure and troubleshoot IP addressing, VPNs, VLANs, routing, firewall settings, and communication failover systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and communication system testing.
  • Troubleshoot communication issues involving cellular, RF, Ethernet, VPN, SCADA, and edge device connectivity.
  • Install and verify antennas, communication cabling, grounding, and surge protection systems.
  • Maintain network diagrams, IP records, configuration backups, and commissioning reports.
  • Coordinate with Operations, SCADA, Automation, IT, and Engineering teams.



Required Experience and Skills:



  • 2+ years of experience in industrial communications, networking, telecommunications, SCADA, automation, or related technical field.
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, cellular and RF communications, Ethernet and serial communications, and SCADA communication systems.
  • Experience configuring or troubleshooting cellular routers/modems, VPNs, managed switches, radio and satellite communication systems, and edge industrial computers.
  • Basic understanding of routing, NAT, VLANs, firewall concepts, RF communications, and failover logic.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in field and industrial environments and travel as required.



Preferred Experience and Skills:



  • Experience with SCADA systems, PLC/RTU communications, DNP3, Modbus, or OPC-UA protocols.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or OEM communication certifications.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas, Utilities, Energy, or Industrial Automation environments.
  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity concepts and network segmentation.



Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their abilities and experience level.
