Genesis10 is currently seeking an Application Programmer (Stability Engineer) for a hybrid position (3 days onsite per week required) with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. The Linux Platform & Stability Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and operational readiness of Linux-based platforms supporting critical business applications. This role owns environment stability, patch coordination, production change execution, and Linux/WebSphere operational support, while partnering with Application, Infrastructure, SRE, and Release teams to plan and implement changes safely. The position also supports container onboarding and modernization initiatives, participates in incident response and root cause analysis, and provides weekend/on-call support to ensure uninterrupted delivery of business-critical services. Responsibilities:
- Ensure stability and availability of enterprise applications across DEV, SIT, UAT, LLE, and Production
- Act as the primary Linux platform support, with strong proficiency in Linux system administration (file systems, permissions, networking)
- Provide operational support for Linux-based WebSphere and middleware platforms (Apache, Nginx, JBoss, Tomcat, WebSphere)
- Utilize Shell scripting (Bash) to automate routine operational tasks and improve platform stability
- Coordinate and execute OS, middleware, and security patching across lower environments and Production
- Plan, create, and manage CRQs for Production implementations, including patches and application changes
- Ensure all changes include validated implementation steps, risk assessments, and rollback/backout plans
- Leverage deployment management and CI/CD tools (Ansible, Jenkins, XL Release) to support controlled releases
- Partner with Application, Infrastructure, SRE, and Release teams to plan and coordinate changes and releases
- Support onboarding and stabilization of applications to container platforms (OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Provide Linux and platform troubleshooting for both containerized and non-containerized applications
- Use monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, Tivoli, Dynatrace) for proactive issue detection and analysis
- Apply a solid understanding of networking concepts (DNS, load balancers) and security best practices (SSL/TLS, SSH, system hardening)
- Support and troubleshoot event-driven Spring Boot Java microservices using Kafka and Eureka on Linux systems
- Participate in an on-call rotation, including weekend and after-hours support for releases, patch windows, and incidents
- Lead or support incident triage, root cause analysis, and remediation
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and environment readiness artifacts
- Ensure adherence to enterprise change management, risk, and compliance standards
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Linux system administration (file systems, permissions, networking, etc.)
- Shell scripting (e.g., Bash) for automation
- Knowledge of deployment management tools and CI/CD tools (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins, XLr)
- Experience with containerization (e.g., OpenShift, Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
