We Require

  • Two years of experience in skilled construction or maintenance

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must possess a valid Arizona Commercial Class A Driver's License (CDL)

  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver's license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL

Job Contributions

  • Lead work crews performing construction and maintenance activities

  • Prioritize and assign tasks; ensure that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site

  • Monitor and enforce adherence to division policies, procedures, and standards

  • Install and maintain roadway pavement markings. Prepare sketches of existing pavement markings. Mark roadways for the application of the appropriate roadway markings

  • Supervise traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards; perform tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies

  • Lead crew in the pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintenance, and operation of a variety of trucks and equipment (including street sweeper, short line striper, attenuator truck or trailer, long line striper, grinder, and hand grinder) and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

  • Complete work orders to meet Division standards; prepare daily activity, material, and equipment usage reports

  • Instruct crew in the proper use and maintenance of equipment. Transport work crews to and from work sites. Conduct weekly meetings with the crew, monitor, and promote safety within the crew

  • Inspect roadways and structures

  • Perform a variety of miscellaneous support tasks and other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware

Street sweeper, short line striper, attenuator truck or trailer, long line striper, other roadway maintenance equipment, and Cartegraph.

Protective Equipment Required

Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, safety vest, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
