The Student Respiratory Care Assistant serves as an intricate member of the healthcare team at Cone Health by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system. The Student Respiratory Care utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Student Respiratory Care accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies, procedures, and license.

Essential Job Function:

  • The Student Respiratory Care should be able to perform the following under the supervision of a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Manages invasive/non-invasive ventilators.
  • Performs routine therapy modalities.
  • Processes blood gases.
  • Performs advanced therapy modalities.
  • Completes required documentation.
  • Monitors and maintains department supply levels/equipment.
  • Exhibits Department Engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Required: Enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Associate's Degree program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Experience:

  • Required: One year required.
  • Completed 1st year of Respiratory Care Associate's Degree Program.
  • Demonstrated competencies verified by the educational institution for the procedures defined in the revised declaratory ruling by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board.
  • Educational institution must verify competency in the following Respiratory care.
  • Procedures: Oxygen therapy systems, equipment processing, manual resuscitation, oxygen administration, humidity and aerosol therapy, small volume nebulizer therapy, MDI administration, Incentive spirometry.

Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Registration as an RCA with the NC Respiratory Care Board BLS required.
  • Preferred: ACLS, PALS, NRP.
