Business Development Director - Consulting

As the first non-delivery business development resources within Syneos Health Consulting, the Business Development Executive (BDE) role will advance our consulting performance and brand by leading strategic accounts efforts across the advisory groups within Syneos Health Consulting. This role is strategic and hands-on; it's a player/coach role that requires the skillset to sell while playing a critical role in developing client relationships and representing the full extent of consulting capabilities. The remit will include direct engagement with leaders across our strategic accounts to identify opportunities, advocating clients needs to the consulting team and working collaboratively with consultants to find opportunity. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing account strategies and account frameworks for planning, driving pipeline growth, and enabling revenue acceleration across our offerings. The BDE will partner closely with consulting leadership, practice leads, delivery teams, subject matter experts, marketing, prospectors, and others across Syneos Health to shape go-to-market strategy and catalyze growth.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
  • Define and refine the sales process, from lead generation to deal closure, ensuring alignment with prioritized consulting delivery capabilities and accounts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key account stakeholders ('walk the halls'), secure meetings to introduce, pitch and advance work across strategic accounts
  • Partner with delivery leads to identify and prioritize targets, evolve account planning, align offerings to market developments, develop pursuit strategies, support proposal development, support conference attendance (prep and follow up)
  • Serve as go-to resource for connecting consulting advisory groups to client needs and relationships
  • Support consulting conference attendance with strategic efforts to best target and prepare attendees with a view on customer attendance and engagement
  • Work proactively and collaboratively to expand footprint within strategic accounts
  • Work closely to support the creation of sales collateral, pitch decks, and case studies in collaboration with marketing and delivery teams
Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as the connective tissue between sales, marketing, delivery, and finance to streamline communication and execution of growth initiatives.
  • Demonstrate best practices in client targeting, opportunity qualification, and account planning, including stakeholders across Syneos clinical and other part of the commercial platform.
  • Partner with lead generation to cast a wide net, identify, qualify and advance opportunities
  • Partner with core capabilities leads to bring our highest impact capabilities to market
Forecasting and Reporting
  • Track and report on sales performance by strategic account, providing insights to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Advance and maintain sales operations infrastructure, including Salesforce campaigns and hygiene, reporting dashboards, account dashboards and sales enablement tools.
  • Develop and manage sales forecasting, revenue reporting, awards tracking, pipeline health metrics, and performance KPIs to allow for better visibility and consistency in how we forecast, convert and grow
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience ideally with a mix of sales, account management, sales operations and relationship building acumen in a consulting or biopharma services environment.
  • Deep understanding of the biopharma industry, including structure and functional design of our customers business, pipeline, in-line, and competitive dynamics to identify opportunity levers
  • Proven success in building or scaling a sales function, ideally as a first hire or early-stage leader.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), pipeline analytics, and sales forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Attributes
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a matrixed consulting environment.
  • Familiarity with incentive compensation design and sales performance management

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $X to $Y. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
