THE POSITION

The Field Enforcement Agent 1 role with the Department of Revenue offers an exciting chance to make a real impact across communities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position works in the field to support investigations and enforcement activities related to tax compliance. The role helps ensure businesses and individuals follow state tax laws. As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Support: Assist with field investigations of businesses and individuals to gather information and observe compliance efforts
  • Tax Enforcement: Support efforts to locate delinquent taxpayers, review records, and encourage payment of owed taxes
  • Surveillance Tasks: Participate in surveillance, interviews, and information gathering to help document potential violations
  • Evidence Handling: Help collect, organize, and prepare evidence and reports that support enforcement actions
  • Compliance Checks: Take part in inspections of businesses and vehicles to verify proper licensing, stamping, and fuel tax compliance
  • Record Updates: Update account systems to ensure taxpayer information is accurate and enforcement actions are documented

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in Allegheny County. Relocation is not an option.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
  • You must meet eligibility requirements for the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN).
