Job Summary

The Drafting Technician is responsible for creating, maintaining, and revising technical drawings that support the design, fabrication, and assembly of enclosure systems and data center containment solutions. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to translate engineering concepts, specifications, and customer requirements into accurate, manufacturable drawings and 3D models. The ideal candidate possesses strong CAD experience, a solid understanding of mechanical design and sheet metal fabrication, and the ability to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment while ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to drafting standards.

Job Responsibilities



  • Create and maintain detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and technical schematics for enclosure systems and data center containment products.
  • Develop accurate 3D models and drawing packages based on engineering designs, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Interpret technical requirements and convert design concepts into manufacturable documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams to ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities and operational requirements.
  • Revise and update drawings to incorporate engineering changes, customer requests, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve tolerance, fit-up, interference, and manufacturability issues prior to production release.
  • Develop, maintain, and update bills of materials (BOMs) and associated engineering documentation.
  • Manage drawing revisions and maintain document control within CAD and PLM systems.
  • Ensure compliance with established drafting standards, revision control procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Support manufacturing personnel by clarifying drawing requirements and resolving technical documentation issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide drafting support for new product development and product enhancement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance product quality, efficiency, and manufacturability.


Job Requirements



  • Proficiency with CAD software required; Creo preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD platforms acceptable.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting and dimensioning standards, including ASTM Y14 standards.
  • Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, mechanical assemblies, and tolerance application.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create detailed technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to support manufacturing and production environments effectively.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, and production teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.


Education



  • Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline preferred.


Work Experience



  • Experience creating technical drawings and engineering documentation in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, or enclosure systems preferred.
  • Experience utilizing CAD software for 2D drafting and 3D modeling required.
  • Experience with PLM systems, document control, and engineering change management processes preferred.
  • Experience supporting production, manufacturing, or fabrication operations preferred.
  • Experience with data center infrastructure products or enclosure systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems and controlled documentation environments preferred.
