Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical nursing support for research studies by performing IV catheter placement, managing timed blood collections, monitoring participant safety, and ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with study protocols. The nurse will collaborate with research staff to complete meal tolerance tests, collect and process blood samples within required timeframes, assess participant symptoms, and support the successful execution of clinical research visits.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program or Associate/Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience with demonstrated clinical skills preferred.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse required.
  • Must have experience and be comfortable with placing and accessing IVs for purposes of blood collection.
  • Ability to perform repeated blood collection via IV catheter for timed meal tests.
  • Ability to follow the study protocol and collect blood samples at very specific/scheduled times (timed draws completed within a 3-5 minute window from target collection).
  • Ability to thoroughly document collection times on sample labels before taking samples to the in-house laboratory processor.
  • Ability and willingness to document visit details within the study data management system.
  • Ability and willingness to assess and document study-related medical symptoms (headache, nausea, etc.).
  • Ability to use clinical judgment regarding study protocol and possible medical events (i.e., advising on blood sugar or blood pressure).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with experienced research assistants to ensure timed meal tests are completed according to the study protocol.
  • Must be willing to complete required study training before working with study participants.


Management Preferences

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of clinical nursing experience preferred; experience in research, clinical trials, outpatient care, or specialty clinics is highly desirable.
  • Must have demonstrated experience with IV catheter placement, IV access, and blood specimen collection.
  • Experience performing timed blood draws, phlebotomy, and following strict collection protocols preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document specimen collection times, participant information, and study visit details.
  • Ability to follow detailed research protocols and complete tasks within strict timeframes.
  • Experience assessing and documenting patient symptoms and using clinical judgment to identify potential medical concerns.
