The Building People, LLC seeks a qualified Industrial Hygienist to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate occupational health and industrial hygiene programs in support of government facility and operational environments. The Industrial Hygienist conducts exposure assessments, hazard evaluations, and risk analyses involving toxic industrial chemicals, explosives residues, lead exposure, indoor air quality, noise, respiratory hazards, bloodborne pathogens, radiation sources, confined spaces, and hazardous materials. This role protects employees from chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards and supports compliance with Federal occupational safety and health regulations across laboratory, administrative, and field environments. Work is performed in office, laboratory, industrial, and field settings and requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Experience & Skills



  • Experience conducting industrial hygiene surveys, workplace assessments, and exposure monitoring involving chemical, biological, radiological, ergonomic, and physical hazards
  • Ability to evaluate employee exposure to toxic substances including lead, solvents, explosive compounds, combustion byproducts, asbestos, silica, mold, and hazardous noise
  • Proficiency performing qualitative and quantitative analyses using industrial hygiene instrumentation and sampling methodologies
  • Experience developing recommendations for engineering controls, administrative controls, work practices, and PPE
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) criteria, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidance
  • Experience managing respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazardous communication, and medical surveillance programs
  • Ability to investigate occupational illnesses, employee complaints, exposure incidents, and hazardous material releases
  • Demonstrated technical report writing skills, including preparation of exposure assessments, risk evaluations, and corrective action recommendations
  • Physical ability to walk, climb, stand, bend, carry monitoring equipment, and conduct field inspections in industrial, laboratory, and tactical training environments
  • All personnel must obtain and maintain a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.



Preferred Experience & Skills



  • Experience supporting emergency response activities involving hazardous materials, clandestine laboratory operations, or explosives incidents
  • Experience in law enforcement, military, or similarly high-risk operational environments
  • Familiarity with government occupational health policies and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards



Required Education

Applicants must meet one of the following:



  • A bachelor's or graduate-level degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health Sciences, Occupational and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Safety Sciences, or a closely related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or Life Science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry (including organic chemistry) and 18 additional semester hours in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the Board for Global Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Credentialing, formerly the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)



Preferred Education



  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Hazardous Materials Technician Certification
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
