The Building People, LLC seeks a qualified Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Specialist to serve as the Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO) and Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) at designated government facility locations. The OSH Specialist coordinates and submits accident reports, distributes and posts program marketing materials, conducts and reports periodic general safety inspections, conducts respirator fit testing, coordinates scheduling and reporting for annual medical physicals and hearing tests, implements hazard communications programs, and monitors environmental compliance. The OSH Specialist advises personnel on mishap and hazard reporting procedures and collects environmental compliance data related to energy conservation, hazardous waste disposal, and lead abatement activities.

Required Experience & Skills



  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities in occupational safety and health
  • Experience inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards, and identifying potential new hazards
  • Experience designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or systems to control or eliminate hazards
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and the ability to apply safety and occupational health regulations to resolve technical matters
  • Experience analyzing or evaluating new and existing safety inspection jobs, processes, products, or systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards
  • Ability to train workers, supervisors, and managers on safety or occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures
  • Experience implementing hazard communications programs and managing proper storage, marking, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • All personnel must obtain and maintain a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.



Preferred Experience & Skills



  • Experience coordinating lead abatement activities at firearms qualification ranges and bullet traps
  • Familiarity with federal environmental and safety compliance requirements
  • Experience collecting and reporting environmental compliance data for energy conservation efforts and hazardous waste disposal



Required Education




  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating proficiency in occupational safety and health



Preferred Education



  • Master's degree or three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. in safety, occupational health, or a related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation
