The Integrated RF & Photonics Group works to address challenging problems in the national interest across the electromagnetic spectrum ("from DC to daylight") through research and development of RF and photonic components, integrated circuits, and subsystems. Work spans from device level design and testing, through subsystem fabrication and testing, to fully integrated demonstration systems. Key technologies include novel antennas and phased-array apertures, RF transmitters and receivers, RF integrated circuits (RFICs), photonic integrated circuits (PICs), mixed-signal printed circuit boards (PCBs), and packaged electronic-photonic subsystems. These technologies are applied to a wide range of applications including communications, radar, lidar, electronic warfare, SIGINT, inertial sensing, low-noise and semiconductor lasers, and quantum processing and sensing. The Group collaborates across multiple mission areas at the Laboratory to develop innovative solutions to national security needs by fostering research and development in advanced RF and Photonics technologies.
